Audiobook player for 9 year old

Hi,

Is there such a thing as an audiobook player where you can download books, so it doesn't need to be connected to a phone just before bedtime. I think the tonie box and yoto might be a bit young for a 9yo and want something without a screen, or the freedom of an alexa.

Kindle?

You can put child settings on an Alexa. Or kindle
works too.

My 7y old has a yoto and I would say it would be fine for a 9y old, there are lots of different cards you can choose so can just pick different books for older children.

Mighty MP3 player can download Spotify or Amazon playlists to listen to offline

Can you listen on a kindle? She reads books but it keeps her awake and would like something to listen to.

She is currently big on Jacqueline Wilson, does it have this kind of thing? When i googled it suggested its good for toddlers and pre schoolers

This could work. So could I download audiobooks from prime, then set her up with one without needing my phone to be up there? Sorry I like a good old fashioned paperback!

My son listens to audiobooks on his tablet. This doesn't match your no screen wish but the screen is locked once his story is playing and therefore black once back light goes off. He can pause and play from the lock screen, but not change books. We use Libby which is free and the audiobooks are free as long as you have a library card and they use Libby. But you can just ask the library which app/s they have. We also have Audible which has the option for a childrens account which can be set up on multiple different devices and used on those devices at the same time, on different books! But this is a monthly subscription.

Forgot to say that neither Libby nor Audible require WiFi, once the audiobooks are downloaded.

Oh i didn't know there was an option to play the audiobook with the lock screen! Thank you so much. We are library members and would be happy to pay a subscription if needed so might not need to buy another device after all

Yeah, once you've downloaded the stuff on it it works without a phone being there
