Help! Our Echo Dots have all lost the plot!

I am baffled by their behaviour. According to the Alexa App, they have renamed themselves as Sam's Echo Dot (Sam is one of my DDs), Sam's 2nd Echo Dot and so on. We have 4 of them and they're all Sam's now apparently!

My other daughter (Olivia) has a new Echo Dot in her bedroom and it has renamed itself Sam's 2nd Echo Dot! This is virtually a brand new device and we definitely didn't give it that name!

If Olivia is playing music via her Spotify on this so-called Sam's 2nd Echo Dot and I try play music on my phone via Spotify, it automatically picks up that Echo Dot and when I try to change the settings to play my music on my phone only, it cuts Olivia's music off in her bedroom!

Bloody things. Is it best to reset the bloody lot of them since they seem to be so utterly mixed up? And if so, how do I do that? We only have one Amazon Account (mine) which they're all currently linked to. Should we all have our own Amazon accounts each connected to a different Echo Dot to avoid this? Thank you

Watching. Money have gone rogue too.

Good to hear others are having similar problems 😀

Ours too. Our upstairs one just goes silent if you ask it to play anything, though it does give me the weather forecast for Newcastle every morning at 7.15 sharp, even though I’ve told it not to ( I don’t live in Newcastle). Our downstairs one reverts to a whispering volume every time it starts and if you set a timer on it, it only rings, very quietly, upstairs. Every afternoon at 5pm, without fail, it plays rock music at full volume. Again, all attempts to stop this have failed.

Do you think they’re staging a quiet revolution?

Ours is always giving us the wrong weather forcast two. One day I snapped and said Alexa we don't live in x we live here, give us the weather for here and miraculously she did.

I gave in today as I was trying to listen to a podcast on my phone via Spotify. My bluetooth was off.

My daughter then obviously turned her phone on in her room to play music on Spotify via her traitor Echo Dot in her bedroom (The one that renamed itself). My phone then stopped my podcast and started playing her music 🤬🤬

I switched my phone back to my podcast and her music stopped on her stupid traitor dot.

Back and forth we go - me trying to play my podcast, cutting her off and vice versa. WTAF?!!

I had a strop, went on the Alexa app, unregistered all the Echo Dots in the house off the Amazon account. My podcast then finally played uninterrupted on my phone but daughter charged downstairs to ask me why I'd completely reset and deregistered 'her Alexa' - the one that doesn't want to be 'her Alexa' anyway 😅

Next step is each of us having our own Alexa App, each logged onto separate Amazon accounts and registering the shitty little bastard things again.

If that fails and they go rogue again, I'm not sure I'll be able to contain my fury with them. They picked the wrong stage of my life (peri) to give me this unnecessary, stupid, unfathomable nonsense.
