Feeling terrible - is there a virus going around?

I never get sick in the summer. But I was feeling a big off on Friday and by yesterday afternoon I could tell something was wrong. Some gastrointestinal symptoms, slightly runny nose, slightly sore throat, but also just feeling really achy all over and exhausted.

anyone else? Could it be a strain of covid?

Yes. About 2.5 weeks ago I had what I thought was a head cold with a tickly cough. Actually I thought it was hay fever.

Since then I’ve had a chesty cough, aches, sweats during the day and at night and my skin has either felt itchy or strangely felt like it was burning. Thankfully it seems to be calming down now, especially as I’m off on holiday on Thursday. I was due to meet some old work colleagues and at least 3 of them have been off sick with variations of the same.

I am the world’s worst at being ill so this has been torture for me. I’ve tried not to stop doing things - I’ve been getting out about and am eating and drinking fine, but I will be glad to get away and have some sea air.

Did not have cold or flu symptoms but had gastroenteritis at the end of July/beginning of August. Wiped me out for 3-4 days, couldn’t keep anything down (bar fluids)

fiftywheels · 17/08/2025 22:25

Definitely Covid. Got this 3 weeks go, upset stomach, head cold, dreadful nausea, tired and achy. Hit me really hard for 2 weeks and really just back to full speed! Apparently this new strain really contagious - I caught it after my dad visited someone in hospital and another patient on ward had it 🙄
luckily my 83 yo dad had no symptoms at all, but knocked me for 6
best advice is you are suffering with nausea and dizziness ask GP for Cyclizine - after suffering for 2 weeks gritting my teeth, just 2 doses got rid of it! Life saver 🛟

I'm just recovering from Covid. It really knocked me for 6 - sore throat, terrible headache, nausea and upset stomach, fever, shivering and teeth chattering one minute, sweating and red hot the next. I stayed out of everyone's way, slept and slept and I'm feeling better but very easily tired.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/08/2025 22:50

Yep had sore throat, headache, sore eyes, iffy tummy, really weary - I didn’t test but it felt identical to my 2 other known Covid positives . Came on 4 days after flying back from Mallorca and both other times I had it involved flights too - I think it’s possibly rife due to summer holidays and more people flying!!

My husband has been complaining of itchy skin but he hasn't got a rash or anything, just said he felt his skin was Crawling

Yes. Slightly sore throat last night. Now aching all over and have just been sick. I have a really important meeting tomorrow afternoon, so I am hoping that paracetamol will help!

Tested positive for Covid at lunchtime!

DorothyStorm · 18/08/2025 16:24

Im ill now with covid every bloody summer. This past few weeks I started with no voice, then swollen throat. Fatigued. Unbearable cough. Coughing up so much phlegm every morning before I could get up. Ive dragged myself through two weeks. Chatgpt said covid.

I've had the jab and multiple boosters and looks like it didn't stop covid because I've got it...again! They better not try locking us down. seems viruses aren't just a one-time thing

Why do you think there would be a lockdown? That was only because we didn’t have capacity to deal with the acute stage.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 18/08/2025 20:10

Me too.. sore throat, dry cough, aching bones. Not Covid.. waiting for it to turn into a cold and it isn’t!

NeedWineNow · 19/08/2025 06:24

Would you believe it, the coughing is thankfully drying up only for it to turn into a head cold 😡. Thankfully off to Greece Thursday so hoping a bit of dry heat and a couple of ouzos will kick it into touch!

That was me last year. Started on my way to greece. Day one i didnt leave my hotel room. Felt better days 2 and holidays as normal. Got home - chest infection that took weeks and antibiotics to shift.

SquirrelsInSpace · 19/08/2025 09:14

Don't know whether this is a version of the same thing, but for the last week I've had very slight cold symptoms (occasional scratchy throat and the odd sneeze) but horrendous fatigue. Like, seriously horrendous. I do one small task and then need to lie down for an hour. This thing needs to go away NOW.

NeedWineNow · 19/08/2025 09:18

@DorothyStorm It's miserable isn't it? I did the same last year - cough started a couple of days in so assume I picked something up on the plane. Thankfully the village where we go has an excellent pharmacy and pharmacist and the medicine she recommended cleared it up within a few days. I'm looking forward to laying on my sunbed with a book and relaxing which hopefully will help chase whatever this is away.

Coffeeishot · 19/08/2025 09:55

I feel absolutely rank today even my teeth hurt i am assuming it is sinus related, hope everyone gets better soon.

BunnyLover7 · 19/08/2025 10:01

DH had a cold recently & I have a version of it with swollen glands, tickly cough, queasy & generally achey. Do wonder if it’s Covid.

MoonlightMemories · 19/08/2025 10:42

I've not tested but it's interesting to see lots of people saying how much COVID is going round at the moment. I do wonder if I might have recently caught it myself - had a sudden loss of most of my taste and some of my smell last week, but not much other sinus symptoms that could otherwise account for it, had a lot of bad nausea at times especially whenever I tried to eat and just generally felt a bit "off" from my usual self, you know that "general malaise" sensation you get when you come down with something.

Had a bit of a dry cough and tiredness at times too, but have been very busy with work so I've only just joined the dots that it could in fact have been a fairly mild COVID infection.

lunaswand · 19/08/2025 10:48

Yes, I had a slightly bad throat last week & generally felt off, funny taste in mouth, very very fuzzy head & lots of sneezing - had some old tests in the cupboard & straight away positive for covid (although test out of date)

DemonsandMosquitoes · 19/08/2025 10:54

I currently have COVID. On day six and only just feeling a bit better. Headache, cough, shivers, fatigue. It’s been horrible.

This latest aroundv6 weeks before the cough & tiredness disappeared for me

Yes that is me. No voice for two days then hoarse voice. I could not sing for two weeks.

CONFUSEDIN25 · 19/08/2025 19:32

Another one positive for Covid today after starting with a hoarse voice on Sunday morning.

JTA1972 · 23/08/2025 17:02

Has anyone else had ongoing digestive issues with this ?. I’ve had it 3 weeks now and the digestive issues and body aches are tge worse part.
tested negative for covid but I’m not surprised ss my sinuses are bone dry !

Geranium879 · 23/08/2025 17:03

Me and someone from work , and a friend of mine, all had covid lately. The GP apparently said to my colleague that it’s rife atm

Coffeeishot · 23/08/2025 17:05

I am feeling so much better today well since yesterday really, thankfully shortlived.
