We are looking to relocate due to work and are starting to consider areas, if anyone can tell me anything about Whitwick I would be really grateful!

It’s a fairly typical Midlands small town. Some decent parts, some not. There is some nice countryside around it, and it has a new leisure centre. The nearest bigger town is Coalville which is a shit hole.

Can I ask why Whitwick? I know the county well and live in Leicester.

The other side of the motorway is better if you can do it.

What is on the other side please?

@Hazlenuts2016 seems to be reasonably priced and good value

@lilyboleyn do you mean Coalville?

Yes I know it, it's a bigger village not a town. Kind of joined on to the side of Coalville (town). It's hardly posh, but nicer than Coalville itself and some of the other nearby villages. The whole area is an ex mining area and therefore tends to be a bit poorer than other Leicestershire towns, hence house prices are cheaper. You'll need to make sure your conveyancing solicitor does those mining checks. There's some nice countryside around, the abbey (St Bernard's?) etc. There are two primary schools in the village.

These are my impressions, a fairly close relative lives there.

No, definitely not Coalville. It is not a nice town.

I don't think it's brilliant tbh.ashby is much better but with ££ to match. Shepshed might be better though it's still not great. As someone says you want the other side of the motorway if possible - mountsorrel, barrow , Loughborough for a bigger town. Hathern out the other side has a lovely atmosphere

lilyboleyn · 17/08/2025 11:10

Be on the side of the m1 Coalville isn’t on, sorry. Loughborough area. One of the villages.

Where will you be working? Maybe we can make some suggestions based on that?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 17/08/2025 11:28

Depends on your budget, needs and commute. Ashby is a great town with good schools and amenities. I wouldn't live in Coalville

Hazlenuts2016 · 17/08/2025 11:55

@Pemba I would echo this. Its a relatively quiet, nice place. Coalville is the nearest town and isn't nice but If you're not dependent on public transport and can travel elsewhere to shop then it's not a bad choice.
Of you want somewhere closer to Leicester centre that has a village feel, then Aylestone is good and pretty cheap.

Hazlenuts2016 · 17/08/2025 12:07

Market harborough and Ashby are both lovely but probably more expensive.

Pemba · 17/08/2025 13:09

I know Market Harborough is a lot more expensive. They have many residents who have moved there from London and commute back M-F for work, therefore pushing up prices in the area.
