Is the Cheltenham Literature Festival worth visiting?

I’ve always fancied taking a solo trip to this festival for a few days and could possibly make it work this year. I’m just browsing the programme to see what days have events I’d be interested in.

for anyone who has been, how many days would be reasonable? Is there much to do outside of the formal events? More importantly, are the main events sold out by the time of the general public sale?

Thanks for any advice.

I love the Cheltenham Literature Festival. It is probably the most middle class place I have ever been. Grin There are no hard and fast rules. It really depends on the itinerary how many days you want to go for - there have been years where I would quite happily go for a few days in a row and there are others where the events look less interesting and I've gone on a day trip. There are usually a few key talks that sell out ahead of tickets going on sale to the general public - they tend to be the very expensive tickets for prominent politicians. There's not really that much to do there apart from go to the talks - there's loads of food and drink options though and a pop-up Waterstones. It has a really nice atmosphere/buzz. Would recommend.

@KatherineParr i thought middle class would be the general feel of the event!

that sounds good, I’m a bit far away for a day trip, but thought I’d do two or three days. Of course, the events I fancy aren’t on consecutive days so I might combine them with a bit shopping and a trip to the art gallery.
