Annoyed with school timetable

I know I can't change it but 😡I've lost my child-free work-free afternoon!
On Mondays one finishes at 3:20 and the other at 4:20, one comes home for lunch, the other not. Tuesdays is the only day both have the same finishing time but it's very late 5:10pm. Wednesday one needs a packed lunch and finishes at 1:35 and the other at 11:40. Thursday one finishes at 3:20 and the other starts late (8:10am) and finishes at 5:10 and Fridays the other one starts late and finishes at 3:20 but needs to take a packed lunch and the other finishes at 11:40. 🤯🤯 Rant over!

Is the school abroad? The timings seem all over the place

Spies · 15/08/2025 13:30

Goodness me where do you kids go to school? Why so much chopping and changing each day?

MrsJamin · 15/08/2025 13:31

Those hours seem very odd- I assume not UK state schools? Also: education is for education and not for childcare.

Yes, we're abroad. And yes, they are at the same school.
lol, I'm well aware it's not childcare. They don't get fed at school, hence having to take packed lunches when they have lessons during the official lunch break. School is closed over lunch (1145-1345) and Dc have to go home.
It's the organising everyone to be on the right bus and what we can eat for meal times that I'm struggling with right now!

Do jobs also stop between these hours?

YesTHATMum · 15/08/2025 13:35

Nope. That would make life too easy!

Surely it’s the childminder/ nanny or whatever childcare you use who has to deal with different lunchtimes? Genuinely confused!

So if you're working surely there is someone providing care during the day?

This.
Also I doubt very much that there is zero option for children who can't come home during the day. What about parents who work shifts in hospitals etc. Are they expected to give up their jobs? Most schools have a canteen service even if it's outsourced.
If not, try a nanny.
