Is this the menopause??

i have just had a revelation that all my symptoms could be menopause? Or am
I overthinking???

currently experiencing, and have been for a while…

really itchy skin, mainly at night
insomnia
temperature regulation gone crazy…. Get really hot and sweaty really fast
anxiety through roof
sore watery eyes
hip pain
hand cramps

gp has been investigating vitamins, autoimmune etc to no outcome. I’m on the
mirena coil for heavy periods in past that led to anemia, three years in.

is this menopause? Or should the mirena block these if it is???

Most if not all of those are certainly meno symptoms.

Your coil alone won’t deal with them. It gives you progesterone. What you to add need is oestrogen via a patch, gel or spray.

What age are you?

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/08/2025 14:11

Yep all could easily be down to menopause. It’s a fucking delight.

Pamspeople · 15/08/2025 14:35

Yep, classic symptoms. Gps are so crap at spotting it, it makes me furious!

Oestrogen should make a big difference. The mirena already provides the progesterone you need.

Look at eg website of Balance Menopause or Women's Health Concern for more info

All potential perimenopause symptoms. How old are you?

Dabberlocks · 15/08/2025 14:46

How old are you? Anywhere from late 30's upwards and it could be peri, yes.

Greak · 15/08/2025 14:46

Yes, they could all be something else too, but very classic menopause symptoms.

It's good to hear GP is investigating other thing because, after years of menopause being completely ignored, it now seems to be the diagnosis for everything!

Thanks all I’m 45. Have done an econsult this afternoon and been given a telephone appointment on Monday with a woman’s health specialist, who I think is a HCA. Should I ask for oestrogen then?? How quickly will all these annoying symptoms take to leave me alone?!?

Very likely to be perimenopause at your age. They should be prescribing you oestrogel or patches (your choice). Like any new medication, it can take up to 12 weeks to settle so stick with it. They should also be discussing other lifestyle stuff with you like exercise, nutrition and sleep routine

Don't let them fob you off with blood tests, they're useless for diagnosing perimenopause. The NICE guidelines say that at 45 and above they should be diagnosing based on symptoms. Good luck!

I found my hot flushes and awful aching cleared up really quickly, within a couple of weeks, and sleep improved quickly too. No more surges of emotion, just normal emotional ups and downs. No more jerking awake in terror just as I dropped off to sleep. Less itching. Bliss.

Selfishshellfishies · 15/08/2025 18:18

Could be thyroid or B12 also, but assuming your GP has checked those then yes, peri.

gratefulheart · 15/08/2025 21:23

Thanks. Im
already on b12 injections and thyroid all fine!

would Just like to sleep…. So that it could help in that zone is exciting!
