Theme park memory help

I’ve had a random memory of a ride at a UK theme park and would love to find out what it is.

It’s most likely Thorpe Park, possibly Chessington or Alton Towers. I last went late 1990s / early 2000s.

I think it was a ride where you sat in a car, not walking through. Not a rollercoaster.

The car took you through scenes. My memory is mediaeval, a bit scary with torture- people in the stocks or being suspended over a well/ hot cauldron??

Does anyone know what I’m remembering?

Sounds like something from TP fright night. Saw Alive?

Miamoron · 14/08/2025 19:26

Definitely not fright night.

I say scary, but I was a sensitive child 😳

There’s a little ride through Viking scenery at Jorvik?

Think there is or was also a ride bit at London Dungeons?

Definutely UK? Not Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland Paris?

Could it be Dungeons of Doom at Camelot?

Miamoron · 14/08/2025 20:01

Definitely UK and definitely one of the 3 theme
parks mentioned in my OP. I never went to any others. And it was definitely a theme park and not any other attraction.

I recently went to Legoland in Germany. The beginning bit of the dragon ride in the castle is what reminded me of the ride I’m thinking of, if any one has been on that too

I was about to suggest the Dragon ride at Legoland UK, but that's the wrong theme park.
I don't think it can be Chessington, unless it's a very warped memory of the Bubble Works.

SonnyJib · 14/08/2025 20:08

I can picture what you mean. Was it people doing things like chopping wood with an axe? I don't think it was intentionally scary, but it was very creepy.
I think it would have been Chessington or Thorpe Park.

I remember Bubble Works, that’s not it

Yes possibly. It was definitely creepy but some bits were scary too, in a mild way

Wicked Witches haunt at Thorpe Park ?

Iloveagoodnap · 14/08/2025 20:13

Terror Tomb, Chessington?

Honon · 14/08/2025 20:15

I know you said it had to be one of the 3 theme parks above but I was thinking of the ghost train at Camelot, it would be the right era and theme.

It’s this!

Thank you so much, it was really starting to bug me!

Gotta love MN sometimes!!

Funny how it’s actually witches and not mediaeval, memories are strange

Phantom Fantasia at Thorpe Park? There's a video on YouTube. Loved that ride.

tinyspiny · 14/08/2025 20:25

@Miamoron we had Merlin passes in those days and literally lived at Thorpe park and chessington . One day , possibly in 1996 or 97 I spent an entire morning on the Flying Fish with my little boy , we just moved carriage a few times .

Wonderwall23 · 14/08/2025 20:26

I think before it was called Witches Haunt it was called Phantom Fantasia? And it had medieval bits in then.

ETA I loved Thorpe Park in the 90s...has set me off googling now!

DorothyWainwright · 14/08/2025 20:27

Phantom Fantasia turned into WWH in 1994.

jvbell8 · 14/08/2025 20:30

Gullivers world?

Miamoron · 14/08/2025 20:33

I just found a video of it, it starts at about the 10
min mark.

I think it would still scare the pants off me as a grown up!!

Flying Fish was a favourite!

Much preferred TP in those days when it was a family theme park rather than just big thrill rides
