Problem with Amazon Echo device - anyone else?

We have two Amazon echo devices, one upstairs that is in DH's name, the other downstairs in my name. This morning the alarm went off upstairs and DH had to say "Alexa stop" about five times before it stopped. I thought it was a problem with the device, but then I came downstairs where I have regular alarms set to take my medication and it was the same thing, I had to say "Alexa stop" about five times. There was no background noise and I was speaking clearly. Has anyone else had a similar problem today?
Thank you.

No Alexa but I've got a few Google Home devices and one of mine does that. It drives me nuts and I'm sure the neighbours can hear me sometimes yelling 'Google - shut the fuck up!!' at the top of my voice.

Very annoying. I've tried setting a five minute timer to test it, but it won't even set a timer. Google has not suggested anything other than background noise or not speaking clearly.

Have you rebooted (power off and on) ?

TheFutureIs · 14/08/2025 11:06

Mine regularly doesn’t listen to me but will do what my partner or kid asks it 🤣

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 14/08/2025 11:06

Mine wouldn't set a timer this morning either, funnily enough, so maybe there is an issue.

NewYearNewJob2024 · 14/08/2025 11:09

Ours has been like this for a while - very annoying!!!

No, as it's two unlinked devices, I don't think it's that, but will try later if it persists,

My alarm wouldn’t snooze. And I couldn’t set a new alarm.

I just tried setting an alarm and I couldn't do this either, so I think it's a general problem rather than a 'me' problem. It will do other stuff like tell me the time, or what the capital of France is.

Yes they are crap now! I used to really like mine and use it to play music from Spotify. It now has episodes like you describe where I have to unplug it to get it to shut up or it won’t play the song I want and no matter what I say will just play the last song that was on, over and over.

Alexa can be quite disobedient at times.

WillYouShutUp · 14/08/2025 11:35

I’m glad it’s not just my Alexa that’s wilfully disobedient at times. I get so annoyed when it just ignores you yelling at it to shut up. In fact maybe that’s what had just happened when i was giving myself my username.

viagrafalls · 14/08/2025 11:38

Same problems here! Cant set alarm or timer and she would not stop reminding me!

Westfacing · 14/08/2025 11:41

Today for the first time Alexa is having problems with alarms. It replies one hour alarm set for 12 am, immediately followed by sorry there was a problem setting your alarm.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/08/2025 12:17

@Westfacingmine was telling me that as well.

blizymitzy · 14/08/2025 12:35

Our Alexa won’t set alarms today either

SparklyGlitterballs · 14/08/2025 12:38

Seems like it's more widespread and not just you OP...

Mine isn’t setting alarms or timers. Says it has and then a few seconds later says sorry there was a problem. I’ve restarted them all but no joy. Hopefully they will fix it soon as timers are the thing I use them for most

For future reference, rebooting is usually the first thing you should try.

Alexa has been really flakey especially today. She can't set any alarms.

It's shocking just how used I am to using her as an alarm setter 😆
