Margate is our go to beach. Ds is autistic and struggles a bit. He gets upset and tells me he hates the beach hates the sand. When we get there he always takes himself of several meters away . He will just sit there quietly for about 15 mins. Then he comes back . Plays in the sand and sea crab hunting etc its like he's forgotten he was so upset about it. We always stay till 7pm ish then we go to a pub for dinner and get a train home irs normally around 11pm time we get home.

Today we we went to a different beach and a ds got stressed and upset like he normally does he was then OK for a bit played in the sand and sea. It was a bit cloudy and windy though. But not cold kids were happy to play in the sea. Them ds started getting upset again. I gave him a towel so he could sit in a chair and hide. But short while after he started sobbing and got really upset. So we ended up leaving.

We were home by 6pm which is unusual for us. Feels like we were not out long

I think the change of beach made ds more upset than usual. I guess I know for next time.

Have you tried hiring a beach hut for the day?

They're brilliant as they tend to come with deck chairs, parasols, beach toys etc and a little gas hob so you can make tea/coffee.

Also great for him if he wants to sit inside in the shade and have some down time.

Could you take a beach tent that is his safe cocooned space no matter where you go with the same toys and towel inside ?

Im not sure could try it maybe. Hes normally ok at Margate once he regulates himself. I think it was the change of beach that pushed him over. Adult ds drove us to the beach so we didn't really have to worry about carrying stuff. Normally we go by train so carring stuff is not so easy. Its something to think about though.

If he doesn't like the beach then maybe don't take him? Or just always go to Margate...
