Hamster just died 😕

I noticed the hamster wasn’t looking herself today so I gave her a cuddle and found she was cold to the touch.
I popped her in a snuggly sock and we’ve sat on the sofa - she died in her snuggly sock.
She was 3 and a bit so an old lady for a hamster - she’s had a good life but I’m sobbing like a baby

I'm sorry for your little hammy ♥️ what was her name?

leahnejade · 13/08/2025 14:20

Sorry to hear about your hamster. It was a nice peaceful end for her in her safe place with her favourite person but it’s still upsetting for you. Allow yourself time to feel sad today. Take care of yourself xx

Iloveeverycat · 13/08/2025 14:25

Sorry to hear about that. As you said she was quite old she probably just slipped away in her sleep so didn't suffer. Sending you hugs.

Her name is Twilight - luckily the kids are away so they won’t be upset, she was more my hamster anyway.
She was such a tame, lovely little thing - I’ll miss her

Aw, so sorry.
I imagine lots of people don’t realise just what great little characters they can be.

Bowling4soup · 13/08/2025 14:32

Aww how sad. Sounds like Twilight was very loved

Gettingbysomehow · 13/08/2025 14:38

Oh no, Im so sorry OP. They are so precious. I loved my hamster and was devastated when she died. She was so sweet. Three is a huge age for a hamster though. She must have had a very good life.

MyNeedyLilacBird · 13/08/2025 14:41

So sorry op. It sounds like twilight was very loved and had a peaceful ending to her life

Myfridgeiscool · 13/08/2025 14:54

Oh that’s so upsetting OP. She was a very lucky hamster to have had such a loving owner. Go gently OP. It’s tough losing a precious pet. 💐

RausageSoul · 13/08/2025 14:58

I’m sorry to read this, a loss is a loss and you’re allowed space to feel sad. Your little pal was very lucky to be loved and have a peaceful end, which in hamster history is not the norm!

SitOnHisFaceIfHeDiesHeDies · 13/08/2025 15:08

So sorry to hear this. Hamsters are beautiful and I'm so glad you loved her so much ❤️

My son's hamster died about 4 years ago, he was around 3 and half as well. He was looking a bit disheveled for a few days and I was giving him little treats but on this morning he didn't want it. I lifted him out of the cage and the poor thing died in my hands.

I too was very upset, luckily my son was away overnight so I was able to compose myself before telling him.

TheFinePrintess · 13/08/2025 19:43

Ah bless, so sorry @NachoCheesed
My daughter’s hamster died late last year, I sobbed as much as she did! I moaned about looking after him, cleaning his home etc but when he went I was so upset.
I even paid to have him cremated and he’s in a little box on the shelf, my mates thought I was batshit! 🐹💙

Awww RIP Twilight. Hamsters are so full of character, great little things. I've had so many over the years but the worst loss was when my adult DS's hammy died. I was looking after her for him and I felt dreadful. She was so sweet.

It sounds like Twilight had a life full of love. Sending you a hug.
