Meta quest?

My son was to spend all his savings on a meta quest 2 headset. I know nothing about it, or gaming things in general. Is it a good buy? Is there anything I need to know? They seem to come with different memories. Will he be able to fit enough games onto the cheaper version?

It's a lot of money so I don't want him to waste it

I've got the Meta Quest 2 and it's great, we love the games on it. However, it was discontinued last year- that means that it won't continue to support newer games in the future. I'd say that it depends on what he wants to play, if he's happy with the options out there at the moment then great however, he'll need to understand that he probably won't be able to buy games much further into the future (e.g., the upcoming Deadpool game will only be released on Meta 3).

Sorry I just realised I didn't mention the space issue; I wouldn't buy the 64GB version, most games are between 1-10GB and save data also takes up a lot of room so it will soon get full (and you can't use external storage). Also, this is the oldest version of the device, so if your son is looking at buying second hand then it's also the version that's likely to have the most bugs and general operational damage. If you're going with Meta Quest 2 then I'd go for a bigger storage model.

They are brilliant, and you can do so much on them.

As the above poster said though, be aware that future games won’t be available to purchase on it.

My son started with the 2 and then got the 3 last Christmas.
