Does Twitter reflect British political views?

I am so confused.

If most Brits (especially white Brits) on Twitter say they support Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson and like Trump, then why are Brits on here sharing almost completely different views?

I don’t know what areas of Twitter you frequent… but no one I follow expresses support for either of those people. Quite the opposite

Your feed will be tailored based on your unique algorithm. It’s who you follow and what you engage with the most.

Can't reflect my views. I'm not on it.

blacksax · 13/08/2025 16:10

No. It only reflects the political views of the gobshites who like to post on there.

Echobelly · 13/08/2025 16:11

It generally skews 'right' - there will be some people whose feeds skew left based on who they follow but if you don't profess much politically on there I'm pretty sure it has been designed since Musk's era to lean to the right and show people more of that viewpoint. A lot of it will be bots as well, which are far and way more likely to be spreading RW material

What makes you think that they are white Brits? Russia well known for that sort of thing.

Are you really confused? Welcome to social media Hmm

Very large numbers of British twitter users left the platform when it became clear Elon Musk was making it a safe haven for fascists (many migrated to Bluesky, some just gave up) and a vehicle for his own political aims.

There are hardly any centrist or left-leaning posters on there any more, and Musk's algorithm promotes extreme right wing views, so it is not at all representative of public opinion any more.
