I think I've found the cure to chin hairs..

Okay, maybe this is light-hearted. But then again, maybe not?
For the last few years I have suffered with chin hair. It haf been getting so much worse in the recent months. I would find if I left it a few days, I would have at least 6 of the beggars to get rid of.
However, recently I decided I wanted to lose some weight. So I've cut out all refund sugar, eating mainly a wholefoods diet, very minimal carbs and my main source of protein is tofu....and they've vanished?! Gone. Not one. I haven't had to pluck in well over a week. Is it a coincidence? Perhaps. Or have I unintentionally found a cure? Who knows. Call me Alexander Flemming...

OP, even if your blood tests came back normal I would insist on an ultrasound to check your ovaries anyway. My bloods came back normal, but my ultrasound showed very obvious PCOS (many cysts).

I use a safety razor to shave my neck/chin each day in the shower. It's not elegant but very effective and doesn't cause shaving rash.

I had the ultrasound before the blood test and they didn't find anything! So strange

So is it sugar? Or carbs? Or processed food?

RimTimTagiDim · 13/08/2025 08:25

I'd rather have a beard than cut out carbs. Mmm bread

Sure, I'm also vegan.
I eat oats with flax and chia, sprinkled with sweet freedom vegan honey for breakfast. One piece of wholemeal bread with one mashed avocado spread on top with garlic granules, salt and pepper, 4 cut cherry tomatoes with no sugar hot sauce (tangy, not spicy), 2 salt and vinegar rice cakes and an oat cake with sweet freedom chocolate spread (almost no calories and no refund sugar). Then wholemeal rice, vegetables and fried tofu with soy sauce over it. For snacks I have bananas and roasted chickpeas seasoned to your liking. I literally eat that every single day. I've taken the pleasure out of food and just use it as my source for fuel and nothing else. Somehow, this is the only thing that's worked for me.

Thank you!!

I don't know! My guess from the more educated posters is sugar. But could be a combination tbh

6? I would love 6!!

I have PCOS and over the last few years I not only have all my hair, chin fluff I get really thick spontaneous black thick hairs growing around certain areas. A cyst on my chin, random chin ones, a couple round my lips.
I hate them 😩 but they’re very satisfying to pull out with tweezers(which I probably shouldn’t do).

Baconmanor · 13/08/2025 09:45

I spent all my life as a teen with really hairy arms and when I gave up gluten ,all thick arm hair disappeared. This was not low carb particularly but no grains.
when it creeps back in to my diet I get very hairy.

Ladyofyork · 13/08/2025 10:00

Can someone explain why, after plucking my eyebrows fashionably thin in the 80s, they have never grown back but my chin hairs continue to grow and multiply after years of aggressive plucking?

BauhausOfEliott · 13/08/2025 10:07

Lots of things affect hormone balance, including being overweight and I think also certain eating habits, so it does make sense that a shift in hormone levels might reduce facial hair in women. A friend of mine had very hairy arms and quite visible facial hair when she was obese, and it reduced dramatically when she lost a huge amount of weight. She always cites it as one of the surprise benefits of weight loss!

Interesting observation, thank you OP.
I am quite hairy, had a Philips lumea but never had the courage to use it on my face. It did work on my legs, but after not using it for years, it's grown back. Your strategy of using food as only fuel and not as a source of enjoyment fascinates me. I definitely see food as pleasurable!

Me too, or I did. But the problem with that is, I'm an addict. So if it's something I enjoy, you best believe I'm getting addicted to it and over doing it. Since 2020 I have gone from a size 6/8 to a size 16. NOTHING I tried worked, and I really did try everything going (minus medication). Eventually I decided to do it this way and the addict it me lost focus on food and is searching for the next dopamine hit (currently the scales and vape). I didn't for one minute think this new way of living with food would take away my biggest insecurity which is my chin hair. I still enjoy what I eat, I don't just eat bland food. But now I make it so I'm just topping up the fuel in my car, same thing every time, gets me to where I need to go and it's running smoothly now in putting proper petrol in and not a mixture of different random oils my car doesn't like. Does that make sense ?

Oh that's after a FEW days. If I left it for a week or longer, I would give hagrid a run for his money.

Yes OP, it absolutely makes sense. I watched one of these reality type tv shows a few years ago, like you are what you eat. I think they monitored what people eat, who are not overweight. I remember one finding was exactly your strategy, a woman who ate the same foods every day, at roughly the same time. Although she ate plenty, she didn't put on any weight.

Mmmcheese89 · 13/08/2025 10:49

I epilate my chin/neck every 5-7 days. After years of threading, waxing, tweezing. Trying electrolysis, IPL and laser to no avail. My epilator saves me a fortune in salon visits and so much time.

ArcticBells · 13/08/2025 11:07

If only those Phillips machines worked on white whiskers, I’d invest in one for my beard

Is that every day? They do like to creep up on people in the night.

Yes. Probably started off with about 2 in my 30s but crept up and I pluck them every day now I'm in my 50s, post meno and overweight. I'm not on HRT but might go on it. I'm not sure how many there are as I've never let them all grow. I genuinely do quite enjoy plucking them 😊
I used to have fair, very hairy arms as a teenager and used to remove the hair, but that is much thinner these days

I just don’t understand how the little bastards can grow so long so quickly!

LadyRoughDiamond · 13/08/2025 11:59

I can honestly say that running an epilator over my chin once/twice a week has changed my life.

BurBurBarBar · 13/08/2025 13:57

Ive lost about a third of my bodyweight and over a period of years have gone from being a fat bastard couch potato to being quite fit. I have had chin hairs all the way through. The only thing that sees them off is electrolysis but my lumea can kill some of the less stubborn ones.

I particularly hate my hairy hobbit feet too, but cant quite bring myself to ask my electrolysist.

Same. I feel like I've got my life back. I used to go get salon treatments weekly and would still have to tweezers a couple of days later. Now I am confident they're all gone. And can am Les self conscious about it

LittleArithmetics · 13/08/2025 14:32

I eat lots of tofu and also had lots of chin hairs. They're mostly gone though, due to electrolysis. Phillips Lumea did nothing for mine.

Tofu is a natural source of estrogen and the loss of estrogen as we age is heavily linked to chin hair.

You are just self medicating with hormones but you need to be careful though as too much soy in your diet can effect your hormones in other ways.

Isobel201 · 13/08/2025 14:45

I've got PCOS and along with it the hair growth on my face. I've been on Mounjaro and eating less, but the hair growth has not slowed down. The periods started again though.
