Words and phrases that piss you off for no good reason

I’ll start.

“fair do’s”
”cool beans”
”loaded up on”
”bliss”

there’s so many more. I’ve no reason they annoy me so much but hearing these words evokes violent thoughts 😂

“Chefs kiss” I feel like everyone has started using it recently and it annoys me. Not in real life but heard it a lot on social media.

I also really don’t like “awesome”. First heard it when we went to Florida many yrs ago and it’s just so American to me. When it became popular here I was like 😡 it pissed me off! I think popularity has died down for it now though thankfully.

TheaBrandt1 · 12/08/2025 22:44

“A bite to eat” my in laws say it and they annoy me generally

Theoldwrinkley · 12/08/2025 22:47

'My bad'. Drives me insane! I hate it.

Theoldwrinkley · 12/08/2025 22:51

And almost forgot the 'Can I get....' in a coffee shop or similar. What happened to 'May I have please?......'
I always think of saying 'you can fetch it from over there' if I hear it, but am too much of a coward so just seethe inwardly.

Wolfpinkola · 12/08/2025 22:52

“Swing by”
”pop it in”

🤮

DracunculusVulgaris · 12/08/2025 22:52

"Gifted".
"To be fair".
"See/know what I mean?".
"Like" - used as a filler in every sentence.
"Sat" or "Stood" incorrectly used as a present tense verb.
Any 'double negative', 'glottal stop' or dropped 'aitch'.
Aitch pronounced as "haitch".
"Ain't" instead of "isn't".
"It don't" instead of "it doesn't" and similar tortured and nonsensical abuse of the English language.
So, so many - all synonymous with finger nails down a blackboard, but I have autism and poor speech is one of the things which cause me sensory overload!

Temporalagency · 12/08/2025 22:54

My bad
passed (for died)

Apart from that I'm quite chilled. 😂

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/08/2025 22:55

No. You bloody didn’t. You spoke to them.

hyggetyggedotorg · 12/08/2025 22:57

Grab - in the context of “I’ll just grab a coffee” or “can you grab me a sandwich?”. You can just pick one up in a sedate manner, there’s no need to grab at it.

TeenLifeMum · 12/08/2025 22:57

We was…. (instantly tells you the level of academic intelligence so I guess it’s helpful in some circumstances).

acrackineverythingthatshowthelightgetsin · 12/08/2025 22:58

"It is what it is."

liquoriceallsortfamily · 12/08/2025 22:58

K

Wreckinball · 12/08/2025 22:59

Perfect - eg Can I take your name? perfect -argh. Why are you calling today? Because I want to complain - perfect - argh!

At the end of play - no it’s called work and we’re meant to be professional not kicking a ball around a park- it’s so condescending

This is the worst. I am trying to drum it out of one my children who says it all the time. I blame American TV.

Someone close to be always says 'A N other' instead of just saying 'another'. No idea why but it drives me insane.

Enko · 12/08/2025 23:00

Snack...

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/08/2025 23:00

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 12/08/2025 23:01

When people say they "share" a child/ children.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/08/2025 23:02

”We are pregnant”.

No. You’re not. She is.

zerofeeling · 12/08/2025 23:02

I can't stand 'all of' instead of just 'all' - eg 'Please take all of your belongings when you depart' - it's so tiny but it makes me want to scream 😂

Enigma53 · 12/08/2025 23:04

Picky bits
