I qualified as a primary school teacher in 2022. I have a degree in Education and then I did a PGCE.
I worked in a school for 2 - so have 1 term of ECT under my belt . I then left and went into supply for a few years - a mixture of day to day and long term roles - but none of them were assessed for my ECT .
I now work as a teacher in a specialist setting for adults with SEN . I teach FE courses . I plan and teach , but I am not employed as a teacher but as a tutor - however I do have QTS, obviously. I know I do not need to complete ECT for FE. My employers are completely aware , and I do other things as part of my role because I have QTS ( such as mentoring trainee teachers ) . The company is an independent provision.
I have done really well here . I am part of the SLT , consistently good feedback etc and I can see a really good career ahead.
The company have gave me the option to apply for an NPQ in leading teaching and will sponsor me. However, looking at the course details it says it is not suitable for ECTs. I don’t know if this is more directed at schools . The “ people at the top “ are happy to support and it is part of their plan for me to progress into the development of teachers as I have proven to be excellent at my job and I have made lots of positive changes, but am I likely to be refused due to the fact that I did not complete my ECT ?
Getting my ECT isn’t really an option as it seems irrelevant- the company trains teachers internally and I know that people higher up than me have their QTLS , not QTS , because QTLS is relevant to the sector. I am not in a state maintained school . I obviously do have a TRN.
