Three children arrested on suspicion of murder on Isle of Sheppey - BBC News

Arson arrests after Droitwich fire destroys historic Raven hotel - BBC News

I know it is very naive to think young people have never done violent/destructive behaviour before, but it is quite alarming to see these news stories within 24 hours of each other. There are some glaring historic examples, but the arson, for example, isn't even hugely reported. It is summer holidays, and some will claim social media, but am I being overdramatic/anxious about two such incidents in such a short timeline? There was the other awful case with the poor elderly gentleman assaulted by teenagers last year, who died.

What’s the purpose of your thread?

To whip up more criticism about the teens of today?

Do you have teens? Children?

Magnahot · 11/08/2025 16:31

I could post you two links to newspaper articles concerning middle aged people, OAPs etc within 24 hours of one another

Yes, you are being over dramatic and silly. I've taught teens for 30 odd years, there has always been the occasional 'bad apple' if you like, but the majority of them are decent and surprisingly kind hearted sorts.

And I've taught in a series of absolute shit holes. Teens are mostly fab.

I know teens are lovely- I’ve brought up a fair few myself! It was more the nature of these two crimes that seems quite shocking.

Mary Bell? Thompson and Venables? Graham Young?

Sadly, there have always been shocking cases, but they are anomalies.

I could show you links to more shocking stories about people in middle age.

Do you have grandchildren OP? If you do, FGs don’t start wanging on about this in front of them
