Iron fish for casseroles etc

Does anyone use an iron object for cooking to boost iron levels? I’m often low in iron and DS has just had a blood test, and the GP said he is on the low side.
Can I just boil one in water and use the water for drinking with some lemon to boost the vitamin c? Would it work in my Instant Pot, or slow cooker? Does it make things taste metallic? Obviously I’ll boost his iron rich foods, but we all eat well including red meat, eggs, plenty of vegetables etc.

Why can’t he just take iron? Spatone or similar if he can’t tolerate the tablets?

He is getting a prescription from the doctor for 3 months. I was thinking more long term for all the family.

Here's a wikipedia about the iron fish. I don't think they can do any harm and they seem like a good way of introducing a nutrient by stealth, as it were.

I bought one for my mum who is in her eighties and suffers from anaemia but I don't think that she ever used it much at all.

From what I gather, they seem to have to be activated by some kind of vitamin c/acid source but seeing as so many pasta/meat sauces etc have tomatoes in them I think they could come in quite handy.

Why not?

Should have kept that fish for myself with hindsight. He's a lot cheaper than buying a cast iron skillet plus cooking range plus house to put said cooking range in, he's a cheerful little fellow and from what I read above, if you buy the original version, he's in aid of a good cause.
