Don’t cry for me Argentina

Off to London on Wednesday. DP asked me to book theatre tickets. Decided in my wisdom not to, as I am really keen to be outside the Palladium when Evita sings this song.

Great plan (in my mind) but now I have realised I don’t know what time we have to get there, where to stand or anything. He isn’t too thrilled by the idea so I really want it to be good.

any tips please?

Hi I did this Saturday for matinee performance, we got there around 2.30pm and she came out onto balcony at 4pm
It was well worth the wait and had an excellent spot.
I believe it’s 9pm for an evening performance.

Also you’ll know where to stand as security there to guide people
barriers are put up closer to the time she comes out

Well, I’m on his side. I wouldn’t want to not go to the theatre to see an actual show so I could stand in the street outside a theatre to hear one single song. Go to an actual play!

About 9pm. It really is amazing,

I’ve done this - it was really fun. We got to the Palladium at 8:15 and there was already a crowd. She came out at 8:59pm. Worth the wait. But I’d do it in addition to a show not instead of one.

Thank you everyone. That’s so helpful. I did try to get him to go to the whole show but he isn’t interested. We do go to the theatre often. I just really fancy doing this on a lovely sunny evening.

It’s absolutely heaving out there and they stream the crowd into the theatre.

If your DH wants to go to a show and you are taking him to stand in a crowded steet direct and see one song which you can easily watch footage of online I’m not surprised he isn’t too ‘thrilled’

I would have a chat about what you both want bc this seems quite selfish of you and not at all worth it either tbh

I'd like to do it as I've seen the show (it was amazing, including that scene) but not in place of going to an actual show, it's only 10 mins or so and a lot of waiting. Could you do a matinee, have an early dinner somewhere and then do it before going home?

EssentiallyDecluttering · 11/08/2025 09:58

If there are any matinees on a Wed, not sure.

TurraeaFloribunda · 11/08/2025 10:22

I’m with your DP, I wouldn’t want to stand around in the street for an hour just to hear a song. There is a pub on the corner of Argyll Street and a couple of touristy restaurants with a few outside tables. I guess you would be close enough to watch from them.

TurraeaFloribunda · 11/08/2025 10:30

There is also a rooftop bar Aqua Spirit across the road from the theatre. You might be able to see from there.

EssentiallyDecluttering · 11/08/2025 10:37

Honestly I know the show is expensive but if there are any tickets left I'd go for that, it really is excellent and only a few weeks left of the run.

Topseyt123 · 11/08/2025 10:45

Why not go to the show as well? I'd be disappointed to just be going to hear a song in the street too.

Hi all
i have not expressed this well. We are in London for two days for an exhibition and a tour. If we were specifically going for a show I agree I would be totally unreasonable.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
We are now booked into the restaurant opposite the theatre. Your tips are invaluable.
we will be down there for a show in September so win win

You are being unreasonable, your husband suggested seeing a show and said he didn’t want to do this. You are doing it instead of a show because you want to.
