Naked biker riders - has this been through your town, did it make you use your car less? ?

On the way into town yesterday and there was a bit of a hold up on the way, not unusual on a Saturday lunchtime.

As we moved along towards the town centre I realised it was the Naked Bike ride lot. Around 20-30 people biking along at a snails pace. From what we could see they were all men and all older men at that. I had no idea yesterday was our town's lucky day for this event as I don't read the local news etc.

Now, I am all for body positivity and have no problem with nudists or naturists expressing their bodily freedom but within their own spaces (nudist beaches, campsites etc).

A quick google tells me these events are a peaceful protest about the over use of cars, oil and global warming etc but surely most people are going to look at a load of naked people on bikes and go 'Ahh, my eyes, my eyes' or 'Well, that was weird' and move on with their lives, I can't see many people googling to find out why these guys were stark bollock naked and think 'Oh yes, I must use my car less'

All I saw yesterday was a group of old nude men (I didn't see any woman), one was even wearing a weird kinky looking rabbit mask. I know there are lots of people supporting these guys or saying it's really nothing to get hot under the collar about but let's be honest, surely, for some of these people it's a major kink or they are just exhibitionists who will use any old excuse to get their kit off in public. Or maybe at 52 I have just had a gut load of men and 20-30 wrinkly old over-tanned bodies riding towards me when I was just getting on with my day was enough to give my perimenopausal gut the major ick yesterday (although it even turned my dd18 stomach green and she loves wearing next to nothing!).

I'm in Colchester and had no idea there was an environmental message behind it, I thought it was just another one of these odd cyclist events - that said I avoid the town centre at all costs due to it being a pain to find a parking space 😂

I saw them
in Cowdray Avenue OP and later on Hythe Hill with pants on and speaking to the police (will have to name change now obvs)…
That mask was freaky…

The masked guy really did give me the creeps, I doubt he was there for the cause!

You can go a out your business naked though. There is a naked local rambler locally. Everyone knows him, the police won't come out even if there is a complaint because he's just rambling, not deliberately causing offense. Causing offense is not against the law.

It seems to depend on who says they are offended these days….

Yes to have they been through my town/city.
No, didn't change my driving habits. Just reinforced the fact there are so many weirdos out there that I prefer to not use public transport.

😂😂😂

I can hear DM - on being told this news - saying "Must chafe a bit" without a pause in the needles clacking.

My first thought! Who would want to ride a bike naked! LOL

Sorry but no one wants to see old blokes dangly bits. Yuck. That would have put me right off my lunch!!!

I think you have cracked it, it’s a public health initiative!
Everyone feels a bit sick so doesn’t eat lunch, thereby saving calories and a teeny bit of weight. Surely that helps the health of the nation if it prevents even one person having a heart attack?

I think it lost its purpose a long time ago. Campaigning about the vulnerability of cyclists and pedestrians is fine, this way does not have any impact.

As for why it is no younger people and no women, the reason presumably is phone cameras.
