MN Posting etiquette and reactions

OwlsR · 09/08/2025 21:55

MN is the main SM I actually post on much.
On another thread I asked someone to recommend a song to me and was grateful to get a reply.

Before I would have quoted it and added Thanks. Now I’ve used the reaction. That poster knows I thanked them but do I appear rude to anyone else reading the thread? I have ASD and already find navigating this stuff irl hard so sometimes maybe do seem rude 🙁

No, you’re good. Thanking them is a good thing to do; no-one will think you are rude.

If lots of people respond it’s nice to say “thanks everyone” particularly if it’s an in depth discussion and people have genuinely gone to a lot of time or trouble; and sometimes responding to a poster who has really helped your thinking but honestly unless you post a rude post, no-one will think you are rude

Only the person you’re reacting to will know you’ve reacted, so it’s not possible for other people to think it’s rude; they won’t know.
Saying thanks can only ever ge a good thing though, either through a quote or reaction button

Sorry will other people reading the thread think - OwlsR asked a question and got a nice answer and couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge it unless I use the quote and everyone can see.

If you get a number of replies you can @ them

@OwlsR @Lonelycrab etc...

Thanks for the replies

I dont think people think that deeply about it, TBH. I don't feel the need for a thankyou to be public, either.

OwlsR · 10/08/2025 08:23

Thanks everyone - I’m really good at overthinking. Remind myself it’s MN not a test

We love an update on MN so it’s good to come back to a thread and update us.

Lurkingandlearning · 10/08/2025 08:46

I think it’s good to post to say thanks. It shows you’re participating in a thread you started. It keeps the flow going.

Same with posting a laughing emoji. I enjoy seeing that people have found posts funny. It lightens a thread.

I hate it when people quote the OP. But as long as the person replying knows you have acknowledged them then I think that fine.
