Recommendations for butter alternatives

I’ve got high cholesterol and need to cut down on dairy fats. I love butter (especially salted), can anyone recommend a nice spread please?

Honestly I’d try to wean off the butter.

Change the bread you use for sandwiches/toast to something higher quality so the bread is more satisfying

use a chutney, pickle or mustard instead of butter

omit butter from all cooking. If your recipe absolutely demands it, cook something else.

Another tip is to keep a tiny amount out of the fridge so you only spread a smear around the edges of your sandwich/ toast (hard to do when the butter is rock hard!)

Failing that: Did you try Benecol?

Pure spreads have no hydrogenated oils or unpleasant additives. My son is dairy free and we’ve used Pure for years.

I really dislike most "spreads", but appreciate I shouldn't be having too much animal fats either.

Sorry, I know it's not helpful, but I've decided to just cut down and keep the things I really appreciate butter in. Use it sparingly. And then go for alternate options when I can.

So go for something like a chicken salad sandwich where the chicken and salad leaves are in a light homemade olive oil and basil dressing. So that moistens everything iyswim? No need then for horrible spread.

But obviously keep butter for things like crumpets!
