That man's a nutter!👾

pointythings · 06/08/2025 19:00

OK, so he doesn't understand how guilty pleas or sentencing guidelines work, and he thinks British citizens who commit crimes can be deported if they're a bit brown.

Bet the school is glad to be shot of him.

I think the majority of the public think similarly to him about Lucy Connolly.

I know no one who thinks like him.

JamesMacGill · 06/08/2025 19:03

goldenquestion · 06/08/2025 18:10

Possibly. Doesn’t make them right. The ones that understand the law don’t agree with him.

I didn’t say agree with him, I said disagree with what happened to Lucy Connolly. Her sentence was a joke.

Same, but we'll be accused of being middle class and elite.

I doubt they would tell you. I went to a wedding last year and spent most of the time chatting to a youngish Muslim woman who was lovely, and I mean seriously lovely. She added me on Facebook shortly after. Last month she reposted a picture saying women who don’t wear a head covering are destined for hell. You never know what people are thinking.

MissyB1 · 06/08/2025 19:10

It’s irrelevant who agrees with him, the point is he was unprofessional, he will have ignored and disrespected the school social media policy, and risked bringing the school into disrepute. That’s why he lost his job. Life lesson!

You can read on the Telegraph Online with a temporary free subscription.
Tried to post an image of the article, but MN appears to have rejected it, for some reason

As an aside if you sign up to PressReader, free with your library, you can read most the papers for free and lot of magazines, no need for subscription to The Telegraph

And drink oat milk latte 😁

That was for pointythings.

Ew.

But I am a coffee snob - I refuse to drink instant.
I also happen to think that someone as utterly thick as this man shouldn't be a teacher.😂

On another thread not dissimilar to To this I was told go back to drinking oat milk latte and funnily enough had nothing to do with subject matter but was all they could come out with .

GypsyQueeen · 06/08/2025 19:54

I've just posted what he said. If people are discussing it it's probably good to make sure everyone is clear on what he actually said.
I didn't see anything about him saying 'brown people should be deported'. But perhaps this is a different post of his that people are referring to? I've only seen the one I posted.

GrammarTeacher · 06/08/2025 20:23

@GypsyQueeen - teachers don’t get sacked for one social media post like that. It’s really really hard to fire teachers (unless for a really obvious gross misconduct). We do not know the full story here.

I understood, my reply stands.

anyone who understands the law (or can just read the sentencing guidelines for the crime she was sentenced for) knows that it was well within guidelines and not excessive or unjust.

opinions on whether it is excessive or unjust aren’t relevant, as long as it’s lawful.

He's fighting to clear his name, so I guess if there's more to come out it'll come out in due course.

An internal investigation was launched following a complaint submitted by a Muslim representative of the National Education Union (NEU) at the school who alleged that the post was 'Islamophobic' and 'racially discriminatory'.

The college's investigation deemed the posts a violation of its policies, damaging of professional relationships and likely to bring the college's reputation into disrepute.

There's a logical fallacy (and questionable ethics) on display there because something being within sentencing guidelines doesn't necessarily mean it is just - sentencing guidelines aren't perfect and can be amended over time.

Another aspect to the Connolly case is whether she was poorly advised to plead guilty. The plea reduced her sentence by 25%, but clearly anyone who believes she could have been found not guilty will see 31 months as unjust when compared to a not guilty verdict.

Nope, not a teacher.

But what people believe plays no part. The law is the law and the guidelines are the guidelines. They didn’t change before she was sentenced, she chose to commit a crime with that as the potential sentences. She can read I presume. You can bet your last penny that if I’m ever in her position I’ll be reading every last available fact about potential sentences before entering a plea.

And more importantly, I absolutely wouldn’t be pleading guilty if I hadn’t done the crime.

In addition, Point 10 of the sentencing remarks points out that she remarked “if I am arrested, I’ll play the mental health card”. Pretty aware of herself there isn’t she?

This is what he said -

It’s a factually wrong post, but you’d be foolish to assume it’s a fringe view - look at the popularity of Reform. If nobody you know will vote for them, then who are the 30% (ish) who tell YouGov they will?

The Manchester Airport incident is irrelevant to basically everything. Unrelated to immigration, Lucy, Southport and whatever else.

Lucy’s sentence may have been permissible but it was to me wildly excessive - 30 months for a tweet? Absolutely ridiculous, and by all accounts she will be martyred when she comes out as Reform already have her in their sights as some kind of free speech ambassador. Huge own goal.

I do think a huge number of people don’t really understand the difference between opposing Netanyahu and his methods (as I do) and actually advocating for the creation of an Islamist state with terror cells directly next door to Israel. This would make the whole of the West more unsafe. There are a LOT of useful idiots around whose brains can only compute sound bites and cliches and run off at the gentlest of questioning.

So is hearing you describe Muslim people in derogatory terms, but doesn’t seem to be stopping you.
