One night in Ipswich......

Hi All, I'm having to drive to Ipswich to collect a car, literally the only , although very exciting, reason for a 2.5hr journey each way.....

I've never been to Ipswich before, so my partner and I thought we might get a hotelfor one night, head over on the Friday afternoon, stop overnight and head back with the new car the next day.

We aren't really eat out kinda people so would like to have a wander round if there's anything worth a look at, we will likely arrive about 3.30/4pm and then have a few early doors beers and maybe a takeaway. Up and away after breakfast to get the car and head home.

Any areas to focus on or avoid? Or if not Ipswich any small towns/villages within about 20mins drive?

Thanks 😁

Ipswich Quay is quite pretty. Woodbridge is quite nice, about 7 or 8 miles away.

I would agree with the previous poster. If you are looking for hotels the Salt house on the quay is very nice.
Also recommend Woodbridge. Ipswich town centre is disappointing.

I was going to say the Salthouse on the Quay. Or if you go along to felixstowe, Marco pierr white has a hotel.

There are some lovely bits of the Suffolk coast, just a little further from Ipswich. Southwold and Aldeburgh are both gorgeous.
I’d skip Ipswich and head to the seaside instead!

If you do go to the Salthouse they have a fantastic restaurant and bar. Next to them is issacs which is ok bit less ' nice'
The gallery is further up and sort of speakeasy vibes, fantastic cocktails. And there is wine boutique on the Quay ( above bistro on the quay) which is also lovely.

Another vote for Felixstowe. Fish and chips on the prom!
