Hello

I want to get rid of the paint on my bannister and an awkward door , i can't sand. Should I invest in a heat gun or use a solvent thing ?

It will be a bugger of a job and involve a fair amount of physical exertion whatever route you choose I'm afraid!

Heat gun may be simplest/cleanest - but shouldn't be used on lead paint, so if your house is pre-1960s/70s you should do a test first. Scrape down to the bottom layer of paint in a small area and test that. You can get test from B&Q or off Amazon/eBay etc.

I'd give it a go with a heat gun, then if that doesn't work well (or the paint is lead based) try a stripper. If there's loads of layers of paint, PeelAway works well, but is a long a messy job. If there is only a layer or two of paint, a regular stripper should do it - Nitromors is a good one. Still long and messy though!
