Something triggered a memory of a line in a book I read years ago, and now it’s driving me crazy trying to remember the book. Google, ChatGPT and book search engines have been no help and I apologise for how vague this is but hope someone can help.
I probably read the book early 2000s and it would have been a recent book but, at least part of it is set in the 1960s or 70s
It centres around a teenage girl and her mother, there’s lots of references to the girl coveting things from BIBA
The mother is quite critical of the daughter, she tells her that her knee high burgundy boots make her legs look like wine bottles
The mother says of the girl’s friend ‘she’s got such pretty eyes, I don’t know why she has to draw round them
So very vague but hope it rings a bell for someone
