How often do you have fun?

Feeling in a rut, same old same old, week in week out.
I have fun at work, I have some fun friends, but how often do I actually do something fun? Not very often. Just life circumstances I suppose stopping me.

Be honest.

Every day but I imagine our definitions of fun are different

Meadowfinch · 03/08/2025 16:36

Every day.

I read for pleasure. I go running for pleasure. I swim. I chat to friends. I practice martial arts, I meet up with my dsis and shop for clothes every season. I redecorate my home. I make cakes and bread and enjoy doing all these things.

Or do you mean fun as if going out for the day, drinking, dancing etc.

Less often but still a few times a month. We came back from Greece a couple of weeks ago. Already planning our next trip. 😊

ConfusingRelationship · 03/08/2025 16:51

I will again once the kids are grown and moved out. For now it’s all about them and making memories which might not be my first choice of fun but exactly what they want.

Mikart · 03/08/2025 16:54

A lot! We go away every month, even if its just for a night...eat out and drink in new bars. I read about 100 books a year, go to gigs , theatre, galleries and exhibitions. I have no responsibilities and believe in living life.

Mum7644885 · 03/08/2025 19:49

Never, we have 2 young kids and no help

WednesdaysChild50 · 03/08/2025 19:51

Pretty much never

TheChosenTwo · 03/08/2025 19:52

Totally subjective but I definitely have fun every day.
Other people may not find the same things fun as I do but they make me happy and I enjoy them.
Rarely go out drinking and dancing as I don’t really enjoy that so much these days, I’m much more into being a wellness wanker 😂

Zempy · 03/08/2025 19:53

Every day.

My idea of fun might be very different from yours though…

CautiousOptimist · 03/08/2025 19:57

A lot tbh, but maybe our definitions of fun are different!
I read or watch something I choose to every day, having great fun rewatching Stranger Things but this time sharing it with my DS age 13.
I actively enjoy a holiday or day out with my kids, I choose them so I choose what I will enjoy. Eg. last week CenterParcs, tomorrow a theme park.
I spend a lot on theatre tickets, go with one of the children, DH or a friend. I arrange quite a lot of evenings out with friends too.

Im one of those gawd awful people who wake up full of fun

I find fun and laughter everywhere, usually by taking the pee out of myself

Music blaring, I dance away whilst working. Tease the teenagers as they come in looking like they have just fallen out of bed, banter with the customers , sing loudly and very out of tune to the radio

I find fun wherever I can because lets face it, life can be pretty ruddy soulless at the moment

I talk to strangers, I smile and say hello to people in the street, doctors waiting rooms

I dance in the fields listening to mad music when walking the dog

I go out cycling and free wheel down the biggest hills I can find

I play stupid games online, I read , I binge trashy tv when I should be doing housework

Out of the house and spendy would be theatre Rare but I so love it

Out of the house and not so spendy, charity events ( Im rural , we have loads of family days, money raising days )

Not so spendy is having friends in for bring a bottle - lay on a few nibbles and play cards/snooker/table tennis/ corn hole etc and usually end up singing away the night ( badly but who the hell cares )

Pedallleur · 03/08/2025 21:01

Most days. I work with some nice people and I just do my job. No need to get creative and do more work I won't get recognition/paid for. Cycle to work and back and that's usually good. My teenage daughter is a delight and generally amuses me every day

DorothyWainwright · 03/08/2025 21:06

Maybe a few times a year. I've had a couple of nice wildlife related days out this summer.
I enjoyed an outdoor bootcamp class the other week too.

Why can't you have fun with your children?
Surely you play together, laugh together, have fun together?

Crushed23 · 03/08/2025 22:15

Every day too.

Even if it’s just exchanging silly memes with DSis or DP.

I’m going through a difficult time in my job and it’s getting me down, but I still manage to laugh every day.

TaborlinTheGreat · 03/08/2025 22:19

Fun is subjective.
I have fun quite a lot. My job can be fun. I have plenty of fun with my family- we laugh a lot. But if you mean 'going out, socialising' kind of fun, I don't do that a lot. But I wouldn't always find it fun if I did tbh!

This is such a sad post.
I don’t understand why that means you can’t have fun

Isthisfairorwhat · 03/08/2025 22:23

Everyday I prioritise fun over things

DancingLions · 03/08/2025 22:33

Like others, every day but depends on your definition of fun.

I'll have a laugh with the DCs. The cats often do something silly or cute. I have hobbies I find fun that I do most days. There's really not many days where there isn't at least some fun, even if it's just for a short while.

AzurePanda · 03/08/2025 22:34

Every day. And I can’t tell you how sad it is to read that anyone with small children doesn’t have fun on a regular basis.

ExercicenformedeZ · 03/08/2025 22:37

I try to have fun every day, and I do get a lot of enjoyment out of life. For some reason, I have been a little depressed these past few weeks: I think it is the time of year. I don't really like July and August very much: I prefer early summer and autumn.

ChaliceinWonderland · 03/08/2025 22:38

Everyday! My teens make me
Laugh. I do something for me daily, chat to ladies at the gym, meet friends for coffee, cycle everywhere,
Fun is what you make it!

tillyandmilly · 03/08/2025 22:40

I would have fun if I had the funds ! Trips away etc! My contemporaries are doing just that on their lovely pensions - sadly I can’t due to being financially starved! Ho hum!

Popfarts1 · 03/08/2025 23:35

Something every day. Today it was listening to really loud music I love, exercising, eating good food, reading - time spent alone. Yesterday it was seeing some great friends and dancing. Tomorrow I'll have a laugh with colleagues at work. Probably do some more fun exercise, walk. Often it will be playing with the dog, enjoying a coffee. Sharing jokes with friends is always a big one. Making something look nice at home. Putting a nice outfit together.

Sometimes it's bigger things like visiting somewhere new - a museum or new town - or cooking or baking, going to a concert, travel.

Some days you have big fun and other days it's smaller fun. Some might call these moments of joy or contentment I suppose. I'd consider them little burts of fun to pepper the day.

You dont need money to find fun, just a change of mind set

So many posts here saying just sharing a joke, a good morning, a walk in the park - is fun

DirtyBird · 04/08/2025 00:27

Maybe once a year/every two years.
