Relocating - find a job before or after?

If you unexpectedly found you had to relocate several hours away, would you try and get a new job first and then move OR move and then (try to) find a new job,

I work in a professional role and there are always plenty of vacancies. I’m also happy to do temporary contracts (e.g. maternity cover etc). I just can’t decide whether to bite the bullet and move, or try and get a new job first. I definitely need and want to move but it’s a big decision and I guess I’m stalling really, to avoid the inevitable (but I don’t know why).

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I didn’t find a job immediately because I’ve saved a bit. My only real concern is explaining a gap on my CV but surely relocating would explain that?

Just wondered what other people would do in this situation and any words of wisdom you’ve got.

Thanks!

I guess there are a lot of variables. It depends on whether you will be renting or buying, how easy it will be to find a temp position. It might be worth making some calls to get a feel for how often vacancies come up that would work for you.

Thanks @vincettenoir- I’m going to get in touch with some agencies and send my CV this week.
