Scribbles and mark making

This is just something I'm really curious about. Since she was 15 months old my daughter has been "drawing" in her little notebook. She is in the scribbling stage and any kind of mark making, whether that's crayons, chalk, paint etc is what she is enjoying most.

It's been interesting to see how her scribbles have changed over the last 2 months (she's 17 months today). She went through an aggressive dot phase, experimenting with lines and circles and then was obsessed with block colouring everything yellow.

Can anyone who knows about child development explain how the progression of scribbling works. Is it related to pre writing for example or other schemas.

Pictures attached (in reverse order, so the first is the most recent)

At that age a lot of what she is learning is the motor control of holding a crayon and moving it. I don’t think you can put much interpretation on the marks. Just let her keep practicing.
