A disaster has occurred! Mumsnet, can you help please?

Hello lovely Mumsnetters

I've seen miracles happen on here before so I am really hoping you can help me make one happen this evening.

A huge disaster has occurred in my house today. My husband has accidentally damaged my daughter's favourite soft toy which she has had since she was a baby. I'm afraid it is beyond repair and I have no such skills anyway.

My daughter is utterly inconsolable. I have scoured E-bay and despite looking through nearly 3000 stuffed owls, there was not one like this (please see the photo). I've also tried a Google image search with no success.

The toy in question is a purple, green and orange stuffed owl which originally came from WHSmiths, I believe, approximately 11 and a half years ago. At the time and for a while afterwards there were loads of these around but I haven't seen them on sale in a long time now.

Please does anyone have such a toy, ideally in reasonable condition, that they would be willing to sell me for a sensible price please?

Thanks so much in advance.

Vinted is sometimes wonderful.

Do you have a sewing type shop near you or a tailor/seamstress? I took my daughters teddy to one and they sewed a patch that she chose over the hole

TourdeFrance2025 · 30/07/2025 21:07

@RachelsPeeves you are a super star!!!

BabyCatFace · 30/07/2025 21:07

You can have that repaired. If she's anything like most children a replacement will not do.

Problem solved within 11 minutes. Mumsnet at its finest. 👏🏼👏🏼

IMissSparkling · 30/07/2025 21:09

That looks repairable to me, just patch it up.
There's no point in getting a new one, it won't be her toy.

TranceNation · 30/07/2025 21:10

Wow, well done Mumsnet. Good work! 😊

IReallyNeedATimeMachine · 30/07/2025 21:12

Wow! Thank you so much @RachelsPeeves I have bought it and am forever in your debt!
I will explore getting her fixed and if she can be fixed, my daughter can have the choice of which one she prefers.

I would definitely try this before replacing it!

So glad it helped Flowers

Send a photo of the damage, I'm sure someone can advise on here

Edited to add- Apparently I'm not very observant! Speak to a local seamstress or costume maker (ask on local FB groups). That's definitely fixable!

SleepingisanArt · 30/07/2025 21:19

@IReallyNeedATimeMachine - PM me - I might be able to repair the original for you.

IReallyNeedATimeMachine · 30/07/2025 21:29

Thanks so much @SleepingisanArt (love your username btw, it really is!). I had messaged the picture to my other daughter's Godmother who is a keen sewer and she is going to have a look at it for me. If she thinks it's beyond her capabilities I'll get back to you, if that's OK?
