Hi all,
I'm a woman of colour working in a mostly white office, and it's becoming really hard to ignore how differently I'm being treated. My (white) manager clearly favours the new white hires – he’s told them they remind him of his own family members, invites them out for drinks, includes them in casual chats, and they often get looped into more informal work opportunities or mentorship. Meanwhile, I get left out – no invites, no effort to connect, and definitely not the same level of warmth or support. It’s isolating and demoralising.
This isn't about me being antisocial – I’ve made effort to be friendly and involved. But there’s a clear pattern and it's affecting how visible I am at work.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? What can I do without tanking my reputation or making things worse?
Thanks in advance.
