Something someone said that stayed with you (lighthearted)

My dad used to call me “Wee Jim Morrison” and I straightened my hair from the age of 12-16. One day didn’t straighten it and my dad said how beautiful it looked and I was confused and told him I straightened it because he used to call me Jim all the time. He was very confused and apologetic. I did like The Doors so he thought I’d think it was cool. Also, yes I did have Jim Morrison hair, but he had girly hair I guess, it’s not that I have manly hair.

My DH once told me “no straight man is looking at your fringe, no one is paying as much attention to your fringe as you are.” And ever since I’ve been much less bothered. Probably one of the mos freeing things anyone has ever told me if I’m honest.

When I was about 18, and still living a sheltered life, quite inexperienced with men..
A male friend said to me " you aren't the most pretty, but you are very attractive "
This really gave me confidence all through my life ,( now 57 ) to just be me ,and try and be a good person, and not to focus on comparing myself to pretty friends or be self conscious of my looks.
Wish I could thank him actually.

Bit of a backhanded compliment but it is nice. I get it though, there’s a difference between handsome and attractive so I’m sure there’s a difference between pretty and attractive for men.

A very wise older lady told 22-year old me who was stressing about work not to, ‘because no one’s going to put statues up to you if you do it all’. I still remember that in similar situations! Very helpful sense of perspective!

By the boy I lost my virginity to "I'm glad you're not very pretty so other boys won't fancy you"

Cheers, mate.

Worst thing was, he meant it as a bloody compliment

(It was nearly 40 years ago. I really should get over it!)

I bet he was a real George Clooney!! Horrible little rat, bet he’s bald now… or dead.

That speaks to me in my soul…. Wish I’d worked with her!
