Terrified cat - emergency vet?

I have two cats who sadly don't get along - had them for 10 years and they mainly ignore each other and now and again fight, which mainly consists of sound and fury and not a lot else. Never been any injuries or blood drawn. It's a female torbie and ginger tom.

Tonight they had one of their spats which ended with the ginger making an awful noise like we rarely hear. The kind of growling they do when something unusual is happening or something's wrong. He lost control of his bowels on the stairs, which he's never done, then came in the kitchen panting with his lips dawn back. He's just gone to lie on the grass and is panting less but just seems shaken. No wounds that I can see but tongue sticking out a bit still. Do I need the emergency vet? I'm leaning towards yes.

Oh no ☹️

What would be the treatment options/prognosis for this?

That’s so difficult. But if this is something that he won’t recover from then there is no point in letting go on. You would maybe have him for a few more weeks but he would be miserable. You need to pin the vet down as to whether this is something that could improve to a level where he would have a good quality of life. Or whether he will improve only to limp along to the next episode.

The thing is, he wasn't fine yesterday, it just wasn't apparent to you. It's so hard when you love them, but it's the kindest thing to do.

Cats do go downhill really suddenly. One of mine was playing with me in the garden and 30 minutes later we were at the vet because she was doing what yours was.

I'm surprised they've said he's stable enough to move vets though and won't do the tests there.

Whatever you decide to do, remember you gave him the best life and he loved you.

How is he now @pinotnow

The OP has another thread started around 5am this morning. I've just gone back to that and he was PTS late morning. He was in a bad way, in an oxygen tent.😥
