Women‘s football was banned. See how far we‘ve come!

I must admit I had no idea about this. I grew up watching the men play. In 2023 I heard that the English women’s team were runners up in the world cup. Had no idea women’s football was even a thing.

I read an article a few weeks ago that mentioned women’s football was banned in the UK in the 1920s, until the 1979s. In other countries too. Again, I had no idea.

And now look at how many people were in that stadium cheering them on! Look at the headlines!

This makes me even happier than the fact that we won. What a result for women everywhere!

Heartwarming! ❤️And so much better to have The Lionesses as inspiration for our girls than The Kardashians for example!

I remember learning this when they won a few years back. I was shocked. I'm glad you've posted about this specifically. I'm not into sport, but women's football, and England's wins are so, so important.

Yes they are such a good inspiration for our daughters.

I only realised today that I never played football at school- the boys played football when the girls played netball. I did however play rugby.

I feel sad for all the women that had talent and couldn’t make a career out of it, and thrilled for the girls today who can benefit from this societal shift.

I‘m also not that into football, but I think this is so important and I‘m surprised it’s not being talked about more.
