Mansplaining

I’d love to hear your mansplaining stories. My husband has just explained to me that artists only make royalties when their song is broadcast, but not if some random person sings it out loud in a pub or if a crowd sings it (Sweet Caroline - in this instance). Wow. Who knew?? I thought every time I sung Waterloo in the shower, ABBA got richer.

I'm female. Local supermarket. Three toilet cubicles with a little lobby, then another door. I looked in, all occupied with three people waiting, so as it's a smelly and airless lobby, I waited outside the outside door.

Man came up. Asked if I was waiting for the toilets. (There is nothing else there that you might want to access.) Yes, I said.

He mansplained that there was more than one toilet. 'Yes,' I said, 'but they're all occupied'. 'You could wait inside,' he said. 'Yes,' I said, slowly and clearly, 'but there are three occupied cubicles and three people waiting in the lobby, so I'm waiting out here where there's more room.' He looked very annoyed and said somewhat shirtily, 'Thank you for explaining that to me.'

I said 'You're very welcome.' He huffed and walked off. I happened to know that the nearest alternative toilet was out of order.

They don't like it done back to them.

In my previous job, I was given the contact details (By my male boss) of a man who could explain part of my job to me, this was in spite of me having many years experience, a postgraduate qualification in the area. The Man didn't even do the job I did, it was just something he'd been assigned as they couldn't afford to employ someone full time in the role, he also only had about a year's worth of partial experience in the area of work and no qualifications. After speaking with me, he did a complete u turn and told my male boss that I was right and to go with my advice!

Those are great examples and made me chuckle on a Monday morning which is always nice.
