My sister, late 50s has had a tough few years and has just booked her 1st holiday abroad in forever.
1 week in Tenerife.
I would like to get her a little package of nice / essential holiday bits to get her started.

Any suggestions?
I'm thinking good book , adapter etc.

Good book
a hammamn towel (cotton towel you can use as a shawl, picnic blanket, pillow or on the plane etc)
travel adapter
nice after sun/moisturuser (I got the avenbonafter shower spray oil this year and it’s lovely but get one of her favourites)
hair treatment spray to stop sun damaging her hair
sun hat
small travel purse
Waterproof pouch/bag to keep phone, book etc dry or sand free at the beach.

Those big pegs for your sun lounger?

How do you know she hasn’t been shopping or wants to go shopping? I’d give currency, she can put it to a nice meal or buy something she wouldn’t normally.

Some great ideas, thanks. I want some of these for myself .... The hammam towel 😃

I know she hasn't been shopping yet because she just booked.
She doesn't need money and obviously she will go shopping herself as well but I thought it would be nice to get her some bits to add to her excitement.

What a strange idea. I'm sure she can get her own holiday stuff, choosing is part of the excitement. Plus she might only have booked hand luggage or whatever and not have room for heaps of extra tat.

Thanks for helpful replies.
I know my sister and know she will like this.

There is definitely ideas there that I know she won't think of getting for herself.

Appreciate not everyone would enjoy this gift.

I think this is a lovely idea. If you know her style a beach bag would be great (and you could use it as the gift bag). Travel size toiletries. Paper back/ puzzle book. Spf lip balm. Id agree a hammam towel would be great. After sun.

Id love this is a gift!

Comments like this on such an uplifting thread are just depressing.

Do check her luggage allowance though otherwise lovely idea. A hat that packs is brilliant, mine rolls into a bag, scarf giraffe is the brand

BeaLola · 27/07/2025 20:32

Definitely the hamman towel - my first day of hols today and mine has come in super useful

Not everyone's cup of tea but I bought a pack of those Eau de cologne wipes

Dr PawPaw spf lip balm

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2025 20:32

Definitely a book

A bright nail varnish for her toes (unless she gets them done in a salon)

Benefit do lovely mini makeup, if she'd like that - I rate their Rollerlash mascara highly; maybe that and a mini of their bronzer (have forgotten its name, sorry - I don't use it because I'm too pale for it)

Where did you get the wipes? They sound a lovey idea.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 27/07/2025 20:52

A nice silky eye mask and good silicone ear plugs. I always take those on holiday.

BeaLola · 27/07/2025 21:25

They are 4711 Eau De Cologne wipes - I buy a box of 10 individually wrapped - have bought from independent chemist and also from Amazon

I used to buy L'Occitane refreshing wipes but they seem hard to come buy now , maybe discontinued? + as they are not individually wrapped youbend up using more than one at a time

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2025 22:01

Thanks. I’ll try to track some down.
