Help! My hair always goes frizzy in the heat on holiday

I have very thick dry hair which is highlighted and straightened. Even in the UK it goes frizzy in heat and rain and grows bigger and bigger. Our holiday is looming and it’s the usual struggle of not knowing how to manage it. Last year I kept leave in conditioner in during the day and tried to wash and straighten before dinner but gave up with the length of time it took and found 10
mins after leaving the room it had started to frizz again!

Any tips or recommended products would be really appreciated

I find Aussie 100 hours hydration super serum good at frizz control. I put it on the ends on damp hair after washing.

Thank you @PerfectTuesday

I have a similar problem. I always get it cut into layers before going away and mostly wear it up in a scruffy bun during the day.

Maybe curly hair products like only curls?

Keratin hair straightening treatment. Expensive but saves me hours a week straightening hair which goes frizzy the minute I leave the house. Now just wash and blow dry and it stays straight

I just put it up in a big bun with a leave-in. I like the Lush super milk.

I too use keratin treatment before I go on holiday. You can buy the sample DIY package here. makes a huge difference for my thick, frizzy, damaged and wavy hair. You’ll get little ‘how to’ cards with the bottles. I used to pay hundreds for the exact same treatment. Make sure you open the windows though…. It STINKS and your eyes will stream!

I like paradox growth mask. I got a small tube in a glossybox a while ago and loved it, so have recently bought a full sized bottle from Amazon (about £16)

A little goes a long way, it’s a 3 in 1, but I use it after washing and before blowdrying, helps my hair to feel sleek and avoids the annoying humid frizz that I usually get!

Color Wow Dream Coat is your friend. And use a bit of Kerastase Serum Fondamental on the ends

KnickerlessParsons · 27/07/2025 12:16

I use coconut oil.

This is so me @Forgottenmyphone!! This time round though I have out on substantial weight so feel hair up accentuates the chins! I’m not blessed at the moment.

@Hannahannabana100@alcoholnightmarei think I had this treatment many years ago and forgot this is available. I’m sure then they couldn’t or wouldn’t do it on the highlighted sections and they are the driest and frizziest. I will definitely consider this for here as well as away

I had mine chemically straightened then keratin smoothed. Worked like magic for humidity.

SantanaBinLorry · 27/07/2025 12:37

This year I kinda rolled with the frizz /volume 😆 Instead of trying to tame/straighten it I bought a set of waver tongs. I used these of an evening instead of trying to style it properly in the heat (leaving to dry is a no-no)
I was really impressed and happy with the waves, they lasted a day or two if not swimming and by the end of the hols I had lovely beachy sun kissed waves. It also meant I wore it down more than scraping it back into a bun!
Just another option OP.
I got the Mark Hill set from Boots.

Colour Wow Dream Coat before blow drying is very effective

frozenshoulderhell · 27/07/2025 12:46

Colour wow dream coat is brilliant for this

My hair appointment was cancelled the day before my recent holiday so I was already sporting the shaggy dog look before departure.

My hair is very thick and just puffs outwards in the heat.

I used John Frieda Frizzease flawlessly straight shampoo and conditioner and for blow drying I used John Frieda Frizz ease all in 1 extra strength serum. The serum was definitely what made the difference.

A bit of oil on dry hair really helps too. I have a few. Argan oil, Olaplex but Got2be is as good as any - and cheap. They do a spray oil mist which is also really good.
