Moving to the other end of the country - any tips?

I'm hoping to move from the south coast to North Yorkshire at some point in the next year.

I have no idea where to start in terms of logistics - putting my house on the market, looking for something up there, finding a job...

I don't have any savings currently (which is why I want to move - I can half my mortgage).

There is a trainee role that I've been working towards and hoping there may be opportunities next spring which would mean a start in September '26 and give me 5 or 6 months to get everything in order, but if that doesn't pan out I need to think of other options.

I'm on my own so it's just me to consider. DD heading into last year of uni and doesn't plan to move back.

For jobs, look at indeed, LinkedIn, any employers websites you want to work for.

Look at Rightmove etc for houses fur sake. Go on local facebook pages to get a sense of the areas (and ask on here).

Nearer the time, contact estate agents in your home town to put your house on the market.

Moving can be expensive so be prepared for that.

Yeah I did the sums last year and am allocating £10k for moving expenses.

I've been thinking about this move for a long time but hanging in there largely as my elderly mum is round the corner and we don't have anyone else.

However, we have a challenging relationship and after yet another row yesterday I'm questioning why I've been working myself into the ground (I'm nearly 50 with a couple of health issues and have been doing in the region of 48-55 hours a week, including 14 hour days) to stay in a place that is costing me both financially and health wise for someone who has very little respect for me or my feelings and who I no longer feel I can trust.
