At what age? Cinema

Child A (5y) and parent want to see film 1 and child B and C (both same age but NOT FIVE!) want to see film 2.

At what age would you let child B and C go together to see a film without you, assuming:

  • You are in the same cinema complex in a film with child A
  • It’s the early showing (10am ish)
  • Both films go in/let out about the same time
  • Both children have been to the complex before and know your screen no. and where toilets are
  • Both children are sensible rule followers
  • Neither child has a phone
  • The film is age appropriate

I would let my 10 year old do that with a sensible friend.

I would do the same. My 10yo has just finished y5.

FluffPiece · 24/07/2025 20:26

Around 10?

Neighbours87 · 24/07/2025 20:26

When I worked in a cinema the cut of was 8. Didn’t stop parents leaving younger children though

FancyCatSlave · 24/07/2025 20:51

10 as you are also in the building.

Year 7 for actually going with friends where they are dropped off.

Cucy · 24/07/2025 21:10

Definitely 11, maybe 9 or 10.

Its going to be families at that time of the morning and so unless they need the toilet then all they’ll do it sit there.

I would meet them outside of the screen door though and not in the lobby.

solando · 24/07/2025 21:19

8 or 9.

champagnedates · 24/07/2025 21:37

Sensible 8. Provided they knew where you were and what to do in an emergency. Might even be tempted to give them a spare phone (eg if you have a work phone keep that and give them your phone)

RigIt · 25/07/2025 06:53

I’d say 8 up. Assuming they are sensible and won’t muck about and ruin the film for others.

IAmNeverThePerson · 25/07/2025 06:59

8 if the are sensible.

youalright · 25/07/2025 07:13

10/11

CeeJay81 · 25/07/2025 07:15

About 9. Although maybe if the oldest is 11 and youngest 8 and they we're sensible children.

It's simple.

A = 5
B = C
B + C = 2x

x = ?

Theres nothing simple about that OP! Honestly could have just asked “At what age would you be comfortable to let two kids go to the cinema alone”?

mamagogo1 · 25/07/2025 07:21

About 10/11 same age as I let mine be in the shopping mall not with me
