Do you buy branded school uniform when it’s just a badge on a sweatshirt?

DS will be year 1 in September. Last year when he started school we bought 3 branded school sweatshirts, they shrunk, got very tight around the neck and we ended up doing a panic wash and dry every Wednesday eve because we seemed to forget we only had 3 sweatshirts.
They were £12 each and I was going to boy some more in the size up for year 1, but a friend just told me they wouldn’t bother and I should go to Asda to get 2 for a fiver!
We do need to save some cash where we can right now but I just wanted to know what others do? (Maybe the very wealthy don’t reply) ☺️

Yes as our ones wash well and don't seem to fade. The supermarket ones do , and it's a pet hate of mine. I get them 5x each as my kids always get dirty , although I wash daily I iron on a weekend so no midweek rush.

However the logo polo tops wash terrible so I get m&s or Tesco ones for that .
Pe kit is non logo anyway so supermarket shorts and t shirt.

I definitely would if your school is ok with it.
At ours, we have to have the branded jumper. I'm not sure if they would challenge it if we didn't, but they'd also look different from all their peers so I wouldn't.

Our school holds second hand uniform sales once a term and I usually stock up then, getting school jumpers for a few quid each.

We have 1 logo cardi and 1 logo jumper. They tend to get taken off in school so they don't wear them for long so last all week. Fresh polo each day, supermarket plain ones. I don't stress about pen or paint marks. If the teachers don't put aprons on them then they can't moan that the kids re in clothes that are marked

Yeah, I buy logo'd sweatshirts, hoodie, and tshirts. The supplier for our school sells pretty decent stuff, although I don't tumble dry anything with embroidery on it. I buy one size larger than necessary at the start of the school year, its usually just about big enough by the end of the year, and then we start again.

Thatcannotberight · 20/07/2025 19:08

I bought new in Nursery ( joined to Infant school and uniform sweatshirt) but either bought second hand from local FB group or had them passed to me by friends with larger children. I was lucky to have a Hobbit sized small child. 🤣

mummyh2016 · 20/07/2025 19:51

Depends if your school allow plain jumpers. And what do most of the other kids wear? Easily 99.9% wear the branded ones at our school (not an affluent area), there’s no set rule for our school however I’d have concerns other kids might single him out if he’s going to be the only child every day in a non logo’d jumper.

CozyCoupe · 20/07/2025 19:53

I get one branded one for school photos and a pack 3 or 4 plain supermarket ones. This seems to be what everyone does at our school!

LaLaLandDreams · 20/07/2025 19:54

Always the school logos. They wash so much better, are thicker and warmer for winter. Never had an issue.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 20/07/2025 19:54

We bought unbranded when the kids were little, from about y3 they wanted the school badge though and they are better quality than the supermarket ones. Can you find a different supplier?

ARichtGoodDram · 20/07/2025 19:56

We don't buy logo'ed ones since lockdown.

Both primaries have (very sensibly imo) ditched any compulsory logo items.

The high school have also done the same starting September.

Squishymallows · 20/07/2025 19:56

Ours says logo jumper a must. Everything else is non branded from supermarkets. So I do buy the jumper, we have 2 new ones and 3 from the second hand sale

every child wears logo jumper at our school, have never seen one without. Wouldn’t want that one child to be mine

NerrSnerr · 20/07/2025 20:00

We got branded when ours were younger but my children are small and don’t grow quickly so only bought in reception and year 2. My son has had a load of hand me downs too. By year 5/6 most wear non branded.

Soubriquet · 20/07/2025 20:00

No not unless I have to IE secondary school, or I can get it cheap in a second hand shop
