What contributes to high GB usage

I get a date allowance of 40 GB a month.

I am just after checking my account. Every day is different regarding data used.

Last Sunday was 2 GB for the day but that's because my family were gone for the day.

Every day since then has been different.

Sometimes it might be 23 GB, other days it could be as low as 7GB.

Other days it's in between those numbers.

I am just wondering what contributes to high GB usage.

We would watch streaming stuff like Netflix and Disney.

There is some online games with Roblox being a big favourite.

I am just wondering what contributes to such high data usage?

There was 30 GB in one day too about two weeks ago which I wasn't expecting. I do suspect that was a game that was downloaded.

Are you making sure youre on WiFi whenever possible?

SeasaltPuppy · 19/07/2025 18:27

is this for home broadband? I wouldn’t be on a package with such a low limit!

The only thing I’ve been able to definitively pinpoint as using a lot of data are high definition nature documentaries on iPlayer but there must be other things too as ours has peaked at 70gb in a day when we were away and housesitters were here. I didn’t want to ask why (nervous that the answer might have been porn 😳). It could have been uploading a large number of photos from a DSLR camera as they were keen photographers.

I don't use wires. I only connect to it through the WiFi.

The home WiFi networks and monthly bills were expensive so I just used a mobile pay as you go since in the router and changed the apn settings to get a reduced monthly bill.

I don't think we watch high definition stuff.

In your case it's probably the camera back up with your house sitters.
