Lost keys

Ok I’ve lost a bunch of keys, I’ve narrowed down the timeline for when they were lost, 2hrs on Thursday afternoon
I need suggestions on where to look, they are definitely in the house somewhere, I’ve turned everything upside down looking for them and no sign, it’s infuriating especially as I rarely lose stuff I’m usually the one who finds lost things

no toddlers or pets who could have hidden them away
just me & 17yo in the house he swears he hasn’t touched them and he has no reason to
I need weird & wonderful ideas because I’ve exhausted the obvious ones

The bin, the washing basket, in a pair of shoes?

madaboutpurple · 19/07/2025 16:22

Possibly left in your fridge or in a different handbag than usual

IchiNiSanShiGo · 19/07/2025 16:25

If they’re front door keys, have you put them with your back door keys?

if car keys, check coats, pockets, on the side next to the loo, on a windowsill where you’d be likely to open that window as soon as you get in.

Fallen in a shoe near where you usually put them. Or the waste paper basket. Next to the dogs lead. In the box of cat food sachets. On the stairs under a pile of stuff you’re waiting for someone to take upstairs.

On top of. Cupboard/watdrobe

Rocknrollstar · 19/07/2025 16:38

Mine were in the greenhouse.

Crunched · 19/07/2025 16:40

I found mine in the bottom of my 'bag for life' that I had chucked back into my bag pile.

MadridMadridMadrid · 19/07/2025 16:44

Have you gone back to the place you originally thought they were and checked really thoroughly? Sometimes we think we've ruled out the obvious place, but we were right first time, but didn't check carefully enough in that place.

Errolwasahero · 19/07/2025 16:47

This. They’re always in the first place you looked.

icantgetnopeace · 19/07/2025 16:47

In the downstairs loo/coat cupboard from when you took your shoes off
In the bin/down the side of it
Underneath some post on the stairs
In the garden as you hung washing out when you got in
on top of the fridge/microwave
inside a shoe (I found a ring inside my shoe once)
In the garage as you went in there to get something when you walked in the house
In the space where you store shopping bags

Username2151 · 19/07/2025 16:51

Tossed into a shopping bag?
I'm sure you've checked all pockets of sweaters, jackets that you might have been wearing.
Down the back of the sofa or chair?
Down the space between headboard and mattress?
Placed absent-mindedly into it one of the drawers in the house?
Still in the lock of one of your doors,?
Have you looked in or on the most cluttered area of your home?
Have you checked in the bathroom?
How about the boot of your car? Could you have left it on top of your car when you loaded your car with packages?
Could the keys have fallen down near where you hang them up or put them in the bowl somewhere by the door?
Maybe near where you keep your post if you have box for it and you bring it inside?
In the refrigerator? I actually found mine one time when I was in a hurry to put something away and still had the keys in my hand.
In the kitchen bin?
Behind the cushion or under the sofa?
Good luck!

Willowskyblue · 19/07/2025 17:32

Any shopping bags that you’ve put away and not checked? That’s where mine were. Good luck.

happinessischocolate · 19/07/2025 17:38

Say out loud “Saint Anthony, saint Antony, come around, something’s lost and can’t be found”

distract yourself with something else for 5 minutes - they’ll now be in the first place you think of

found my credit card yesterday - under the drivers seat of my daughters car after doing this - my thoughts kept going back to her car even though it had been checked twice

anniegun · 19/07/2025 17:41

Sometimes I have really had to think hard about the coat or bag I used and it has not been the usual ones that I checked 10x. Did you wander into a room or cupboard that was not part of the usual routine?

wonkylegs · 19/07/2025 17:54

Thanks I’ll keep looking - it’s driving me to distraction
they are my office keys, can’t be in there because that was locked
I will take a look with these suggestions in mind
i’m trying to be methodical, at least the house will be tidy once I’ve gone through everything!!

Please let us know where you find them @wonkylegs .
We can add it to the list for the next time any of us lose something!

PashaMinaMio · 19/07/2025 19:03

Could you have had them in your hand when you threw something in the bin? I threw my keys, absentmindedly into the rubbish bin as I chucked an item into the bin.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 19/07/2025 19:06

Dirty washing basket
Clean washing basket
Ironing pile
Towel cupboard
Coat hooks
Shed
Pet supplies cupboard
Behind something on a bench
Under sofa /chair /table

LollyWillow · 19/07/2025 19:07

I lost a car key once and found it in the shed at the bottom of a caddy containing plant labels and a pair of gardening gloves. This was unusual, usually if something is lost it's because I've put it down the side of the sofa. I come home, collapse on the sofa, and anything unfortunate enough to be in my hands ends up down the side or under the cushions.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 19/07/2025 19:18

My mum once lost her car keys for over a week.

They were under the washing pile she was purposely leaving on the kitchen table to see if anyone else would take it upstairs.

deckchaironnabeach · 19/07/2025 19:21

Fallen behind a unit. In the hall? Or in the lining of your handbag.
