What (lighthearted) family lore says about you and your family

If you made a spreadsheet of old family stories about previous generations do you think you could reach any conclusions or define a theme? And where do you fit in?

Most of ours are about getting lost (usually due to talking a lot) and all the repercussions (being late, hungry etc).

One involves someone quitting their job in a salty fashion to enlist in the army (wartime) and then being rejected and having to go back and ask for the job back.

My grandma was a very irreverent Catholic so we have a lot of those stories too, about her disobedience.

Taken together they paint a pretty accurate picture of the family: disorganised, chatty, somewhat chaotic, rebellious but conflicted about fitting in. There are darker stories too but if you only look at the ones everyone enjoys you still draw a similar conclusion.

I can’t explain why this was a penny dropping moment for me but it was.

That we’re worryingly bonkers.

If you include the story of the brother who put an axe in his sister’s head.

Or the mother who hoovered up her son.

Those are pretty out there! How was the sister who got axed??

She was ok! The axe was blunt!

Still has a dent though.
