Mediums and Tarot readers-how do I learn?

Weenurse · 17/07/2025 09:07

I have been told on a few occasions over the last 20 years (by different people) that I have some potential ability that could help people.
How do I go about learning?

You could help people without falsely claiming to have superpowers and fleecing the vulnerable and bereaved, like mediums do.
Do voluntary work, or get a job helping disadvantaged people in some way.

Keep the tarot and medium readings as party tricks for your friends.

I just want to learn, no plans on fleecing people

If you were a genuine medium (not that I believe there's such a thing) what would you need to learn?

Start by getting yourself a deck - the original rider Waite deck is one of the most popular and easy to decipher. Get a book alongside it - that will break down what each card means.

The easiest way to learn is to learn the general themes first I.e the difference between a major arcana & minor arcana, rather than trying to memorise each individual card.

The minor arcana has 56 cards split within 4 suits. Each suit in the minor arcana has a general theme I.e cups = emotions, relationships, intuition etc whereas pentacles = practical/physical i.e work, finances, tangible possessions.

Next, focus on what each number means I.e the number 5 of each suit is considered to be the conflict card, whereas 10 is considered to be resolution. If you pull the 5 of cups it might point towards some turbulence within a relationship for example.

Learning the general themes of the suits & the numbers will help in your interpretation. There are lots of resources available online (even on places like tiktok!)

Finally, if your goal is to help people, be very careful. Tarot can be a great exercise in focusing on specific issues, getting you thinking, weighing up decisions etc but it should not be dressed up as some kind of divine instruction IMO. Reading tarot is about using your intuition. I only do it for myself when I’m struggling with something, or for friends for fun.

What is there to learn? It’s all bullshit….🤣🤣

I think tarot cards can be an interesting way to get insight into your thoughts and feelings about a situation. It can provide some prompts for creative thinking and help to put aside preconceptions. In this way, I find them helpful.

Mediums are either misguided or deliberately misleading themselves and others. It’s not helpful and not a positive thing. The dead have no insight into your situation that you don’t have yourself. Why would they care, even if you’re willing to believe they have nothing better to do in the afterlife than float about watching us like some kind of soap opera.

Weenurse · 17/07/2025 09:40

@heroinechic that is very helpful, thank you.
You are correct in that it will probably be more about me and learning about myself.

Well you’d need to find your conduit, what appeals - tarot cards, crystal ball, holding someone’s jewelry/personal item? I knew I woman who would draw her visions/sensings. The best way is to practise with people you know and see how it feels. I owned some tarot cards but I’m not psychic I used the explanations and would try to get a sense of what the story was. )easier with people you know obviously as you have background info) But I never charged obviously and was always clear it’s a game.

If you mean can someone talk to the dead/predict the future then yes you’re probably right. But I saw a psychic 30 years ago who told me I would marry a man named Steve and work together in hotels. Both came true, did I give something away? Have something on my person to lead her to that conclusion? Was it a self fulfilling prophecy? Or could she predict the future then? I don’t know. I also saw another psychic a few years later who asked immediately who was pregnant, it was me I was 2 months. Did I rub my tummy in queue? Was it a lucky guess?

You could also look at it as helping someone make sense of their life, tapping in to their current emotions and guiding them to the right path. That could be real. But yes of course there are a lot of charlatans about.

I think some people go for fun, some see it as like horoscopes and pick out something they think is sending them in a certain direction. I’m intrigued to go to one, I’ve had a rough year and would like to take something out of it. And if I went after I was bereaved years ago I’d have tried to pull something out of that too

At my toughest time I had a dream about my dad who was my everything and the most positive person I know. He said simply ‘ I hear you’re going through a tough time.’ Nothing else. I woke up the following morning more at peace then I’ve ever been, a mixture of hearing him (I didn’t see him, he just put his arm around me), and hearing someone acknowledge that life was hard for me (marriage break up, 4 kids, work, elderly mum and brother with autism that I couldn’t see enough as I was finding it hard to travel as was so tired). It was just a dream to be fair but sometimes even a placebo does the job for someone

Weenurse · 17/07/2025 11:16

The person I saw, ( expecting it to just be for fun) I asked about retirement.
She correctly informed me that I had some surgery recently. (No signs of this, I have recovered well)
She also suggested my body would not cope with my current job full time and to consider part time.
She also suggested to consider learning reiki.
I like the idea of learning something new.

I think it's a gift a person is born with. I don't believe that people with a genuine gift charge people.

A lady I knew from our kids at school added me to her Psychic page the night my dad died. Not because she was psychic, but because she had seen my announcement and decided she would like to try and make money from me! Charlatan! No thanks.
