Coat from Vinted absolutely stinks..

Lovely teen child decided to order a coat from Vinted when she realised I wasn’t going to pay £££ for a new one she doesn’t need this coat just wants it not exactly essential and she’s used her own money

It turned up yesterday and oh my gosh the smell stank out my kitchen, absolutely disgusting, it also seems to have a rip in the lining.

Will vinted let me send it back? Is it worth it or should I just hopefully wash the smell out and put up with it? I will be leaving an honest review.

Stinks of what?
You/she need to click "i have an issue" and explain the problem and request a refund.

Mulledjuice · 17/07/2025 08:50

NB you need to do this within 48 hours and once you/your daughter has clicked "everything is ok" you cant go back.

What does it smell of? Was it described as being from a smoke free home?

DivaRainbow · 17/07/2025 08:50

Don't accept the order on the app, the take pics of the ripped lining and explain the smell as why you are not accepting the order. Vinted will either refund you or not

Just get your teenager to wash it and see if the smell comes out, i saw a thing on tv about the horrendously filthy clothes people are selling, i would never use it 🤢

Highlighta · 17/07/2025 08:53

Isn't this the risk you take when buying second hand items online where you cannot view it in person?

Just wash it.

Or rather let your daughter do it, as she chose it and paid for it.

OhNoMyChocMelted · 17/07/2025 08:53

Send the seller a message they may partially refund. The smell should wash out. Can the rip be repaired ?

This is also my fear on vinted thankfully I've only ever had 1 bad item.

Momstermash94 · 17/07/2025 08:59

If the outside of the coat is in good condition and as described I'd probably keep it and wash it really well, depending on how much it cost. But leave an honest review for sure so others are aware. What does it smell of? I'm wary of vinted sometimes and people often take photos of the items with filthy homes in the background 🤢 instant scroll past!

This is why I only buy brand new with tags or brand new without tags on Vinted.

How was she able to get on your account and buy something with your card, that would worry me more than a coat that smells.

EvilNextDoor · 17/07/2025 11:02

@2dogsandabudgie she added her card to my account to use which I agreed to, I have no issues with her doing that, she always asks before ordering and this is the 1st time I’ve had an issue with something smelling like sick being delivered.

Ive clicked I have an issue and let vinted know sadly I can only photo the rip not the smell of the sick and body odour

It's not as described so you should be able to get a refund. Although sometimes you've got to pay the postage to send it back which is not really worth it depending on the price.
Ive never had an issue with vinted but don't buy from anyone who doesn't have good reviews.

EvilNextDoor · 17/07/2025 12:25

They had 4.8 on the reviews, looking back a few recent ones have been sale auto completes with no feedback left.

It’s my daughters decision but I have told her I’m not washing it

That’s revolting to have that kind of smell, and if the rip wasn’t mentioned and the condition was stated as Very Good then you should get a refund.

I thought you were going to say it smelt of one of those highly scented fabric conditioners like ylang ylang and patchouli - they smell hideous to me and I have to keep washing an item until it goes.
