Boring sorry - suitcase recommendations please

Need to buy new suitcases of varying sizes for a city break next month.

Have needed them for years, always start looking then end up using the old ones. DH, who has always insisted there is nothing wrong with our existing cases has even commented that we desperately need new ones for our next trip 🤣

Can you recommend me a decent brand that will last for years and not completely break the bank?

Samsonite. I bought one in TK Maxx last Summer and it's done several long haul flights and still looks great, strong, good zips, combination lock and compartments inside. Also easy to spot on the carousel.

Can recommend Lipault luggage as they’re light, durable and soft (owned now by samsonite.)

Only issue we don’t want to spend £1000 on 3 or 4 new cases. So will be going for their slightly cheaper ones and hope that they are also good.

We’ve had no luck whatsoever with hard suitcases. Every single one has cracked within two years of purchase so we’ve gone back to soft case.

They are pretty cheap, but we really like IT cases and they've lasted pretty well for us. We get the ultra light ones as we have been lucky enough recently to go to places with strict weight allowances on internal flights. Nice and square so you can fit lots in easily and they come in a variety of sizes. Not guaranteed to survive forever with rough handling I suspect.

Eastpak. Second best according to Which? Magazine. I love them.

We like the Tripp ones, have had a couple for a few years, seem pretty durable, nice colours, normally a discount code somewhere or a an offer on.

Tripp are good. Lots of different sizes and colours and usually a discount available too.

Samsonite or American Tourister. Try tkmaxx or Costco

I bought an expensive branded bag a few years ago. One of the wheels failed on the outbound leg of its first trip. I replaced it with this bag from Decathlon which has been absolutely amazing. It’s been carted about on planes, trains and automobiles and coped with everything. But do mark it up with a distinctive tag or something as there is often another one on the luggage carousel.

Agree with others Tripp are good suitcases.

This thread reminded me I need a new suitcase, and just saw that Tripp have a huge sale on!

Interestingly - two cases we’ve had for a few years that have been used lots every year are my dc’s cheap hard suitcases. One from argos and one for tk maxx. Both £30-50

Eastpak. I love them too. Especially if you want to use on trains or other transport, not just check-in on flights

I like the Eastpak cabin size cases as soft and can squash stuff down. I have a larger one as well but not used that yet for any long haul flights.

Travelpro are excellent value for money. They aren’t super cheap but the quality is great for the price.

Not what you need for going on holiday but they even have ranges of luggage specially designed for pilots and cabin crew.

I used to sell suitcases so would definitely recommend Samsonite if you have the budget.

However, over the past few years, I’ve been using the Featherstone soft sided range from Argos. Very good value for money. Especially their 8 wheeled suitcases. They are by no means the flashy type. But wheel and handle quality are important and I’ve been impressed so far.

Ours are American Tourister and they were great for a 3 week long haul trip.

We have a Kipling weekend suitcase which is also nice.
