Yorkshire Dales weekend washout

I’m booked to spend a lovely summer’s weekend in Wensleydale with my 9 and 5 year old. Except there is absolutely nothing lovely about the weather forecast. I’m absolutely gutted as this is our holiday and having had such nice weather, our plans of waterfall walks, paddling, Forbidden Corner, Brimham Rocks and the squirrel walk feel a bit sad. Is there anything to do indoors at all within 30 mins of Wensleydale? I have the creamery and Dales Museum in my sights but that’s a morning at best and we’re there 3 days 😫.

There’s bound to be a break in the weather, stay positive as it may turn out to be nicer than you think, at least some of the time. Just keep an eye on the forecast and make the most of the breaks and take a waterproof coat for showers. Brimham Rocks is lovely, there’s plenty of overhangs to shelter under!

@Velvethoneydew thank you, appreciate that. I’m worried the rocks will be slippery hence rethinking that plan

Definitely waterproofs!

But if it’s all too much there’s a chocolate factory in Leyburn you can do chocolate making workshops which would fill another morning - you have to pre-book.
The Richmondshire Museum in Richmond is also good for children (free entry for under 16’s) or there’s also the Green Howard’s Museum, you’d have to pay to park at Nuns close car park as it’s only two hours free disc parking in the market place.
There’s the station cinema in Richmond too (as well as the Savoy on the Garrison).
There’s a swimming pool on the Garrison, the one in Richmond is closed currently due to issues with the roof.

@ChillyB brilliant suggestions - thank you. Particularly the chocolate factory

@Alifemoreordinary123 Indoor activities are really hard round about you could have a look at Bolton Castle and the Wensleydale railway too that runs between Leyburn and Leeming Bar (check out planet offers for reduced family ticket for the railway - this also has to be pre- booked).
I hope you manage to have a lovely time in spite of the weather forecast.

@ChillyB thank you so much

Most of my childhood memories involve scrabbling round places like Brimhsm Rocks in the rain! Just get your waterproofs on, it’ll be fine.

Drive to settle for the flowerpot festival, I’ve done it in the rain before
