Trying to recall a news story from a few years ago, Google not helping. Not a happy story unfortunately.

I think it was in the last 5 to 8 years, maybe up to 10 years ago.

A man and his friend were tried, maybe convicted (?) of the murder of one of the men's girlfriend. They had been on a night out, had a row, she walked home alone and was abducted and murdered.

But the boyfriend and his friend were found not guilty in the end.

I think it happened somewhere in the south of England.

Sorry, not a happy subject matter, but I really need this info if anyone can help me out?

It's depressing to think that there are probably hundreds of similar stories

Was it Rachel Manning? from Milton Keynes? Her uncle was accused, but it wasn't him

Do you know anything else? The name of the victim or either of the two men accused? Occupations? Any other unusual details?

Thanks @Squidwitch - it was Rachel Manning. Her boyfriend and his friend (not her uncle I don't think) were wrongfully convicted and jailed. The real murderer was found some time later.

Ah sorry, I misremembered about the uncle. It was so very sad, she lived in the house I grew up in, and I was so happy there, and I like to imagine Rachel being happy there too.
