Famalam makes me think of flans.
It’s family ( ‘ flaming family ‘sometimes )
When politicians say ‘ look ‘ before their spiel. You know it won’t be good whatever they say.

Describing things as "marmite". I don't have strong feelings about it; it's only adverts which make people think it's divisive.

And describing things as “vanilla”

FancyCatSlave · 15/07/2025 13:14

“Fell pregnant” I really hate it and the connotations of fallen women. Eurgghhh

Plantladylover · 15/07/2025 13:15

We're pregnant

I'm reaching out

Thinking outside the box and other management speak nonsense

Fur babies

A 'cheeky' anything

Aww bless

Tabitha005 · 15/07/2025 13:15

Yeah, 'lived experience' makes me want to shout 'GET FUCKED' really loudly. I might just start doing it. The word is 'experience'. No need for the 'lived' bit. You can't fucking experience anything if you're dead.

knackeredcat · 15/07/2025 13:16

"The ick" (haven't spotted this yet!)

Housewife2010 · 15/07/2025 13:16

Why have some people started saying they are bringing something "with" rather than "with me"?
Also all this daft describing of inanimate objects, particularly handbags as "she".

I’m not sure that “fallen women” is the intended connotation though.

NameChangedOfc · 15/07/2025 13:16

You go girl!

Newgolddream70 · 15/07/2025 13:17

Being, or not being, a ‘happy bunny’. Also at work they keep saying we have to go for the ‘low hanging fruit’.

oh and ‘circle back’. Urghhh

T00ManyBooks · 15/07/2025 13:17

“Pick your brains”

KStockHERO · 15/07/2025 13:18

"Gender fluid"

Not because I'm ideologically opposed to such nonsense but mostly because it puts me in mind of snail trails of excitement left on bus seats 🤢

Wilma55 · 15/07/2025 13:18

Gentle reminder
It is what it is

garlictwist · 15/07/2025 13:19

Not a phrase as such but I take great exception to the names people give to nurseries - they are always so painfully twee: "little ducklings, tiny little chickie-wickies" (ok, maybe not that). It makes me never want to use them.

raspberrieswithchocolate · 15/07/2025 13:19

I hate almost every phrase mentioned in the 8 pages I've just read.

chillibuns · 15/07/2025 13:20

RosesAndHellebores · 15/07/2025 11:39

Thank you for reaching out. My arm goes nowhere, I have contacted you.

I also hate this bollocks. Gives me the visual image of arms outstretched.

LadySuzanne · 15/07/2025 13:20

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2025 13:09

I'm not sure I know what this means , definitely never heard it!

Apparently, a casual way of saying, "Can you do me a favour?" or "Can you help me out".

See link for discussion of etymology:

Wellnowlookhere · 15/07/2025 13:20

Speaking your/my/their truth, or speaking truth to power.

Those phrases make me want to wallop the speaker with a plank.

Frauhubert · 15/07/2025 13:21

a new one for me is referring to random objects as ‘her’
for example talking about a new cooker: ‘oh, she is a beauty’
new car: ‘she is a powerful beast’ 🥴
just stop, it’s cringe

Cattenberg · 15/07/2025 13:21

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 15/07/2025 12:35

‘The Boy’ when referring to their male child. I’ve never heard anyone say ‘The Girl’.

I used to know a woman who referred to her (very tall) partner as "the boy". 😬

Terrribletwos · 15/07/2025 13:22

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger etc...tell that to the guys in hospital for MH.

Also, what's meant for you doesn't pass you by....see above.

garlictwist · 15/07/2025 13:22

FancyCatSlave · 15/07/2025 13:14

To be fair, I think that is a legitimate grammatical and lexical way to describe becoming pregnant. It's the same in French (tomber enceinte).

GettingTheHellOut · 15/07/2025 13:25

knackeredcat · 15/07/2025 13:04

Also "passing", "passed". Died and dead will suffice (although I can see where some people prefer "passed away"). And this from someone who has seen more of her fair share of death over the years.

There was a whole thread on this some months ago where someone said they thought it cringey and they were attacked and piled on and asked who they thought they were to tell someone how to grieve.

What about "gendy neutch" (instead of gender neutral).

Said to me by a shop assistant when I was buying joggers from the boys section for my dd.

Wiglio · 15/07/2025 11:49

She turned round and said….

That was a really common expression when I was a kid growing up. People absolutely peppered their sentences with it (East Midlands). Haven't heard it in decades, though (might still be common usuage there for all I know).
