What bottle of red wine to get an amazing teacher?

I've been told by someone who knows her that she drinks red. I'm happy with a £5 bottle of merlot from Aldi, but would like to spend about £15 on a nice bottle of red for her (I've also got her a book and a plant pot).

Any suggestions please?

Slightly more expensive, I think about £20 in M&S - Barolo is lovely.

You’ll get a decent red in Waitrose

I think it has now gone above fifteen pounds, but chateauneuf du pape is delicious

Fleurie is a lovely red.

Thanks everyone. I can get to Waitrose, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's. Whenever I look at reviews online for these wines there's such mixed reviews due to bad years or batches, it's hard to know what to get...

Yes, this is more like £21.50 + AFAIK. Shame, as also heard good things.

Have you got a more independent or st least specialist wine shop near? Go in and ask if so

If you can get to Asda they have chateauneuf for just under £20

No, sadly not; I live in the sticks and time is running out now.

Beaujolais is a nice summer red. I particularly like Fleurie.

If you can get to a Majestic, The Guv’nor red is fantastic. Only ~£7 a bottle (ig you buy six, which you should!) and by far far far the best red I have had, ever.

The also do a Guv’nor VIP for a bit more ££. I don’t recommend that one at all - far too “much”. Almost a port yet not a port, so just an uncomfortable strong that doesn’t go well with dinner or cheese or afterwards as it is neither one nor the other.

The Guv’nor will go well with any dinner or with cheese.
